The Mets have signed Val Pascucci to a minor league contract. The 31-year old minor league veteran came up briefly in 2004 for the Montreal Expos. He was on the Mets AAA minor league team in 2008 and last year played for the Padres and Dodgers AAA affiliates.
His offense totals last year for both teams were pretty impressive. He hit .248/.348/.445 with 19 HR, 77 RBI and 25 2B.
In 9 minor league seasons Pasucci has hit 193 HR, 713 RBI and has a line of .275/.394/.488.
The guy can certainly hit in the minors and he hasn’t really been given a chance to perform at the major league level. The 6’6”, 230 pound right handed hitter, is an outfielder and a first baseman so he could prove useful for the Mets when one of their players goes down with an injury.
I wonder why he hasn’t been given more chances to play at the major league level? He gets on base and he hits for power. Could Pasucci finally get some playing time with the Mets in 2010?
