The New York Mets (60-61) lost to the Houston Astros (53-67) at Minute Maid Park by the final score of 3-2. The Mets split this four game series with the Astros, winning two games and losing two of them. Mets drop to a game under .500 again, dropping them to fourth place in the NL East.
Pat Misch started for the Mets and the Astros hit Misch hard in the first inning, but only got one hit and didn't push across a run. He ended up going six plus innings, giving up three runs on four hits, no walks and one strike out. Misch got the loss for the game, but he pitched well, the Mets offense just couldn't get anything going… again. He's 0-0 in two starts this year with a 3.00 ERA.
Bud Norris took the mound for the Astros and pitched very well. He went seven inning and gave up just two runs, on two hits, two walks, a hit by pitch and four strike outs. He earns his sixth win of the year with tonight's victory, making him 6-7 on the season.
The Mets got on the board first, in the fourth inning. Angel Pagan drew a walk to start the inning, then David Wright was hit by a pitch. Ike Davis then grounded out, moving Pagan to third and Wright to second. Jeff Francoeur then grounded out, moving Wright to third and bringing in Pagan from third to make it 1-0. Chris Carter then hit an infield single with two out, driving in Wright from third to make it 2-0.
Misch was cruising through the Astros batting order until the seventh inning. Angel Sanchez and Hunter Pence started the inning with back-to-back singles. On the first pitch Carlos Lee saw he crushed a home run to left field, giving the Astros a 3-2 lead. The Mets then pulled Misch with just 67 pitches, and Manny Acosta got the Astros out one-two-three.
In the top of the eighth Jose Reyes lined a one out single to center. Reyes then advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Luis Castillo then ground out back to the pitcher for the second out of the inning. Pagan then lined out to the short stop for the final out of the inning, stranding Reyes on second.
The Astros then got runners on second and third with one out against Pedro Feliciano. The Mets then brought in Ryota Igarashi to try to get out of the jam. Igarashi showed off the impressive curve ball he was working on in the minors, as well as getting his fastball up to 96 MPH. He struck out Sanchez and then struck out Pence with a high 95 MPH fastball to end the inning.
Brandon Lyon came in for the save in the ninth and struck out Wright on three pitches to start the inning. He got Ike Davis to ground out for the second out and Francoeur fly out to the Pence, who made a sliding catch to end game, giving the Astros a 3-2 victory.
