A Blast From the Past: Mike Piazza

Written by Tyler M at 2:02 AM, September 2nd, 2010

Mike Piazza was one heck of a player. I hope one day he will be one heck of a hitting coach for the Mets. Well the situation right now with the Mets is terrible. So I was watching clips from past years. A few minutes ago I was watching clips from 2005. In doing so, I found clips from Piazza's last game as a New York Met. Here are 2 big clips from that:

I actually was at that game. We had gotten tickets for a sky box that day and enjoyed it a lot. The thing I remember most was crying my eyes out at it being Mikey's last game. I gave him multiple stand ovations, with the help of those in my sky box, even when the rest of the stands wouldn't. I remember who replaced him in the game. Mike DeFelice. I remember the Mets got crushed, 11-3. I remember how much I loved Mike Piazza as a player back then, and I don't know if that love for a player will ever go away. I was on the verge from getting an autograph from Piazza one day. The next year, he leaves the Mets. The year after Piazza left, I was at a San Diego Padres at New York Mets game, the one Piazza didn't start. As we were on the highway leaving Shea, we could hear (with the radio off) the fans chanting Mike Piazza's name, wanting the Padres to put him in.

Where did the time go? It's been almost 5 full years since Piazza's last game as a Met, but to me its like it was just yesterday. Piazza was one player that any Mets fan would cheer for, even after he went to the Padres and then Athletics. Even when Piazza homered against the Mets on April 22, 2006. I was also at Mike Piazza's first game as a New York Met. Where has the time gone? Piazza will be a heck of a hitting coach when he decides to become one, and hopefully when he decides to become one, it will be with the Mets.

Mike Piazza was great. My fondest memory of him had to be from back in 1998. I went to a double header with my dad and my brother at Shea. They were playing the Cardinals, and Mike Piazza and Mark McGuire put on an amazing show in batting practice before the game, just launching ball after ball over the wall. It was amazing.
