I was looking at the Mets line-up last night and I was thinking to myself, "what is happening here?" No Jose Reyes, Angel Pagan or Jason Bay? Josh Thole hitting second, Chris Carter hitting clean-up, Lucas Duda making his major league debut? Luis Castillo leading-off?!?
So this line-up should do some interesting things… or not. In the voice of Harry Doyle, "and for the Mets one run on let's see, two hits. That's all we got, two god damn hits?" Don't worry guys, no one is watching anyway.
Though I'm excited to see the young guys like Thole, Davis and Duda, I would like to see the Mets win. They are three games under .500 and are in fourth place behind the Florida Marlins in the NL East.
So with all these new faces on the roster, one would assume that there would be changes to the coaching staff.
But this is the Mets we're talking about, they rarely do things that make sense. The Mets have underachieved this season and are, once again, the laughing stock of the league. So it only makes sense that no one major from the front office or the coaching staff has been fired.
It's not that having a new manager will necessarily help the Mets, it would just show the fans that they are trying to do something. I'm not sure anyone could manage this team right now and be successful with them. Their offense is just completely awful and they can't hit in the clutch. Their pitching has been good, but they need to be near perfect for the Mets to win.
So how much longer will Jerry Manuel, Omar Minaya, and Howard Johnson have jobs? I feel like I've been asking this question for a few months.
