Jose Reyes was signed by the Mets to a minor league contract in 1999. In 2003 he joined the Major League team, officially joining it the day before his 20th birthday. He and David Wright have run the left side of the infield for the Mets since 2004. Now, in 2011, his contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and whether he will be a New York Met next year is up in the air.
A couple years ago, I wrote an article about the impact Reyes has. He can make a regular double into a triple, he can make a regular single into a double. He can get a single, and with only one batter hitting after him, score. He can play shortstop well. Plus, he will add in power. A major issue with Reyes is, of course, his injury issues. When healthy, he is a catalyst for these Mets. He is one of the more exciting players to watch. The question is, will he be in New York next year, or elsewhere? Will the Mets offer him a contract extension, and will he accept? I think the two should reach an agreement for another couple years to keep Reyes with the Mets. What do you think? Post a comment with your opinion on this.
"I'm a big Jose Reyes fan," Wright said. "He makes everybody around him better, including me. So I hope he goes out there and has a great year and kind of forces the hand of the front office so they lock him up to whatever kind of extension. I hope that's the case." (From: Mets.com)
