The Mets got all they could have asked for in the series opener against the Phillies. Chris Young dominated both on offense and on the mound. Young went 3-3 on the night with a run batted in in his Mets debut. Two of the three hits came in a 6-run outburst against Cole Hamels in the third inning, making Young the first Mets pitcher in franchise history to get two hits in the same inning. He started the rally, and helped add to it. Young, on the mound, went 5.1 innings allowing 5 hits, 1 run, 4 walks, and 7 strikeouts, getting a win.
Offensively, the Mets had a 6-run outburst in the third, and a run in the 6th. David Wright went 4-5, with 2 runs batted in and 2 runs scored. Jose Reyes went 2-5 with a run scored. Both had a stolen base. Also, of course, Young had a 3-3 night.
I think the win was big for the Mets. They are a new team this year, or at least it seems they are, and are doing what they should, taking advantage of the mistakes their opponents makes. They have renewed aggressiveness this year as well. David Wright is looking like the old David, hitting the pitches he is given well. Chris Young mad an excellent debut, despite faltering a bit in the 5th and 6th. I like this team; the way its playing.
