This is definitely a new Mets team. Mike Pelfrey faltered, badly. He went 2+ innings, allowing 8 hits, 7 runs, 1 walk, and 1 strikeout. However, the Mets got him off the hook with a 2-run 4th, and a 5-run 5th. These Mets were down 7-0 and wound up tying it at 7-7, this is not something that we are used to from the Mets. However, Blaine Boyer faltered in relief, going 2 innings, allowing 5 hits, 3 runs, 1 walk, and 1 strikeout. Taylor Buchholz, Pedro Beato and Francisco "K-Rod" Rodriguez all had scoreless outings.
Offensively, the Mets had their chances, but, in some instances, did not take advantage (same old Mets). However, in multiple opportunities in the 4th and 5th, the Mets took advantage. They showed they aren't going to go down so easily, although they still went down. They rallied from down 7 run to tie it. Jose Reyes went 2-5, Angel Pagan went 2-5 with 2 runs batted in, Ike Davis went 2-4 with 2 runs batted in, and Brad Emaus went 2-3. They are getting hits, they are scoring runs.
For the fourth straight game, the Mets have scored at least 6 runs. Reyes has led off the game with a hit in 3 consecutive games. K-Rod has now finished a game. This is a new team, with a new intensity and strategy this year, and its showing. They may have lost, but I am really pleased with this game. What I am not happy with is Pelfrey's outing. He needs to step it up.
Winning Pitcher: Antonio Bastardo (1-0)
Losing Pitcher: Blaine Boyer (0-1)
Save: Jose Contreras (1)
Brandon Lee:
It should be noted that Taylor Buchholz allowed three of Pelfrey's runs to score when he came into the game in the bottom of the third.
And yet again, Jose Reyes got to third base with no one out in the first inning and the Mets were unable to get him in. Unacceptable display of baseball.
And yes, it was nice to see the Mets not roll over and die being down 7-0, but this was something we saw happen a few times last year. If they won this game, it would have been a big step for this team. But it was a tough game and it's hard to win when your starting pitcher can't get out of the third inning. Pin this loss on Pelfrey.

totalmets @Tyler_MP @reply Mets better off with Ollie Perez, at least he played big against the Phillies. Pelf is terrible against div. rivals
JoePontillo @Tyler_MP this game made me hate myself. Actually love the fight in this team. Pelfrey should be demoted in favor of Dillon Gee!
