Series Preview: Phillies vs. Mets (08/22 ~ 08/24)

Written by Drucifer at 15:15 PM, August 22nd, 2011

New York Mets

@

Philadelphia Phillies

Citizen Bank Park
Citizen Bank Park

Mon., 22nd Aug., 7:05 PM EDT
Citizen Bank Park

Dillon Gee, RH (11-4, 3.92)

Cliff Lee, LH (13-7, 2.82)

Scouting Report:

METS: Mixing his pitches better than in previous starts, Gee held the Padres to one run over 6 2/3 innings on Wednesday in San Diego. He'll need more of the same vs. the Phillies, who tagged Gee for four runs in a five-out relief appearance on April 29.

PHILLIES: Lee continues to deliver for the Phillies. He allowed three hits, two runs, two walks and struck out seven in a victory Wednesday over the Arizona Diamondbacks at Citizens Bank Park. Lee is a big reason the Phillies have the best record in baseball.

Tue., 23rd Aug., 7:05 PM EDT
Citizen Bank Park

Jonathon Niese, LH (11-10, 4.05)

Vance Worley, RH (8-1, 2.76)

Scouting Report:

METS: Ten hits resulted in three runs last Tuesday for Niese, who is winless over his past two outings — both them quality starts. Niese is 2-2 with a 3.42 ERA in four starts this year against the Phillies, but 0-2 with a 6.97 ERA at Citizens Bank Park.

PHILLIES: Worley was on his way toward rebounding from the second-worst start of his career when rain cut short his start Thursday against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Citizens Bank Park. He allowed one hit and no runs in three innings.

Wed., 24th Aug., 1:05 PM EDT
Citizen Bank Park

Mike Pelfrey, RH (6-10, 4.61)

Kyle Kendrick, RH (7-5, 3.24)

Scouting Report:

METS: Pelfrey had a second short start in a row, going five innings and giving up four runs (three earned) against the Brewers on Friday. He is 0-2 with a 7.58 ERA in four starts against the Phillies this season.

PHILLIES: Kendrick pitched six innings on short notice Friday in a loss to the Nationals. He replaced Roy Oswalt, who was scratched because of a rain delay, and allowed only two runs. He had the win until the Phillies blew the game in the ninth.
