  • Hurricane Weekend – Following the emergency planning and early mass transit shutdown announced by Mayor Bloomberg in anticipation of Hurricane Irene, the New York Mets today announced the postponement of their games against the Atlanta Braves at Citi Field tomorrow, Saturday, August 27 and Sunday, August 28… Both games will be rescheduled as a single-admission doubleheader on Thursday, September 8 beginning at 4:10 p.m… Saturday’s game tickets will be honored for admission to the doubleheader; tickets to Sunday’s game will be handled under the Mets’ rain check policy … Only tickets marked “Saturday, August 27 – Game 63” will be honored for admission to both make up games on Thursday, September 8 starting at 4:10 p.m… Fans who cannot attend the make up games on September 8 are encouraged to follow the standard rain check ticket exchange policy on Mets.com… Tickets marked “Sunday, August 28 – Game 64” WILL NOT be valid for admission to either of the Thursday, September 8 make up games…Fans holding paid tickets for Sunday’s game may exchange them for tickets comparable in price and location for any regular season Mets home game prior to August 29, 2012, subject to availability… For complete information, please visit Mets.com or call (718) 507-TIXX.

  • Angel Pagan – Was 1-5 with two runs scored on Wednesday … Pagan has reached base safely in 19 of the 20 games he’s played this month, including collecting at least one hit in 17 of those contests… He is batting .349 (30-86) with 13 runs scored, seven doubles, three home runs and eight RBI this month… Pagan is eighth in the NL with his .358 August batting average.
  • Ruben Tejada – Was 1-4 Wednesday… Tejada has hit .358 (19-53) with six doubles and five RBI since he was recalled from Buffalo (AAA) of the International League on August 8… His .358 mark is tied for the fifth-highest in the National League since August 8.
  • Nick Evans – Went 3-4 with a three-run home run, a double and four RBI on Wednesday… Evans has five hits in his last eight at-bats (.625), including four extra-base hits (two doubles, one triple and one home run) over his last two contests.
  • Bullpen – Has allowed at least one run in 11 straight games, posting a 5.71 ERA (22 earned runs/34.2 innings) dating back to August 13… The last time the Mets pen allowed a run in 11 or more consecutive games was when they surrendered a run in 12 straight games from August 25-September 7, 1996… The bullpen has also surrendered at least one run in 27 of its last 32 games, posting a 5.21 ERA (56 earned runs/96.2 innings) dating back to July 20… Overall, the pen ranks 28th in the majors with a 4.32 ERA.
  • Chris Capuuano – In his last start, received a no-decision in a 11-9 loss vs. Milwaukee on August 20… Tossed 5.2 innings and allowed a season high-tying seven runs, five earned… Also allowed five hits, three home runs, and three walks… Recorded seven strikeouts and threw 102 pitches, 62 strikes… Capuano has recorded at least five strikeouts in 12 of his past 14 starts and 15 of 18…. Capuano has had a quality start in seven of his last 14 starts… He has 11 quality starts on the season… He had four straight quality starts from June 7 – June 23, which tied the most he has earned consecutively since he had four straight from September 8 – 26, 2010, as a member of the Milwaukee Brewers.
  • Mike Pelfrey – Wednesday was Mike Pelfrey’s 50th major league victory, all for the Mets… Only one other pitcher in the last 20 years recorded each of his first 50 wins for the Mets… That was Bobby Jones, who reached 50 wins in 1997… In a five-season stretch from 1986 to 1990, four pitchers did that: Dwight Gooden, Ron Darling, Sid Fernandez and David Cone… Research courtesy of the Elias Sports Bureau.
  • Roster Moves – New York Mets selected the contract of RHP Miguel Batista from Buffalo (AAA) of the International League and placed outfielder Scott Hairston on the 15-Day Disabled List, retroactive to August 24, with a left oblique strain… Batista will #47… Batista, 40, started the season with the St. Louis Cardinals, going 3-2 with a 4.60 ERA in 26 games…He signed with the Mets as a minor league free agent on July 4 and appeared in 10 games, eight starts for Buffalo (AAA) of the International League… He went 3-0 with a 4.24 ERA for the Bisons… Hairston underwent a MRI at the Hospital For Special Surgery that revealed the strain.
  • Jose Reyes – Began his major league rehabilitation last night with Binghamton (AA) of the Eastern League against Altoona… He went 0-1 with a walk and run scored… Reyes played five innings at short without a fielding chance… He is scheduled to play with the BMets tonight and Saturday… The Mets shortstop was placed on the Disabled List on August 8 with a strained left hamstring.
