@  brian stark : (19 Oct 2017 - 09:46)

We won 10 of 11 agianst them that year...

@  brian stark : (19 Oct 2017 - 09:45)

Mets won 100 that year, won the division by 15 games. Hershiser pitched more like a new fangled Don Drysdale, finshed out the season with 59 dtraight scoreless innings...

@  Canada Mets Fan : (19 Oct 2017 - 05:06)

That Mets team was loaded, 108 wins or so I believe and Hershiser pitched like a right handed Koufax.

@  yogib8 : (18 Oct 2017 - 19:54)

Mets had an overwhelming record vs the Dodgers that season.

@  West Coast M... : (18 Oct 2017 - 13:54)

I stand corrected!

@  brian stark : (18 Oct 2017 - 13:39)

That was the Gibson series. Should have been the Mets versus the Bash Brothers...

@  yogib8 : (18 Oct 2017 - 12:22)

WC, the Yankees and Dodgers have met 11 times in the WS 1941-1981. 1988 was Dodgers - A's

@  Drucifer : (18 Oct 2017 - 10:21)

:goodday:

@  West Coast M... : (17 Oct 2017 - 22:47)

Dang, this postseason is not going the way I would have liked. Mets cooked back in April/May, Indians eliminated and now it appears the Yanks and the Dodgers could be headed to a rematch of the 1988 WS. UGH!

@  brian stark : (17 Oct 2017 - 20:22)

Oh, yeah, no doubt. That was my point, too. That park is a joke.

@  Saxon : (17 Oct 2017 - 19:55)

not saying Judge doesn't have power BS...just that Yankee Stadium suddenly made him into Babe Fureakin' Ruth

@  METS FANG : (17 Oct 2017 - 18:27)

agreed with CMF - was unaware they are that drastic. Reminds me of a CarGo Coors vs away type numbers...

@  Canada Mets Fan : (17 Oct 2017 - 18:22)

Wow, I never knew about Judge's splits. That's startling. Thanks, Sax.

@  brian stark : (17 Oct 2017 - 17:30)

Judge has power, there is no doubt about that, but that home field is absolutely stupid. I mean, seriously, Todd's homer should have been a bloop single at most. One handed, lunging, off balance and goes out. Asinine.

@  Saxon : (17 Oct 2017 - 16:41)

imagine Aaron Judge if Yankee Stadium wasn't such a joke...Judge had a grand total of 56 Minor League Home Runs in about 1300 at bats...he had 54 mlb HRs just this season...33 of them this season at Yankme Stadium; and only 19 road HRs...

@  Saxon : (17 Oct 2017 - 16:37)

actually, I think that it was 1 specific bat that caused the biggest shifts in the wall...David Wright went from being a HR hero in Shea to being a lazy flyball hitter in Citi Field

@  yogib8 : (17 Oct 2017 - 14:41)

Two days after Alderson's signing was announced in 2010, the Mets announced a dramatic dimension change for Citi Field would take place after the 2011 season. This was after three seasons in which the Mets finished 16th-13th-13th in Hrs (NL). IMO the change was prompted by Alderson and may have a criteria for taking the job. The rational was that Citi Field was hurting the Mets ability to hit HRs, which doesn't stand up. Over those three seasons the Mets hit 162 Hrs at home and 169 on the road. The reality is that in 2009 the Mets biggest bats Delgado/Beltran missed 217 games, 2010 Beltran and Bay missed 165 games and 2011 Beltran/DW/Ike missed 250 games.

@  yogib8 : (17 Oct 2017 - 14:06)

How has baseball changed that affects the philosophy that speed and pitching would have killed in original Citifield

Spot on, he team that Omar inherited and built was a winner and had the legs to continue winning. He oversaw 6 drafts and 7 of his top 10 pitching picks went on have ML careers; Pelfrey, Niese, Parnell, Joe Smith, Matz, Harvey, deGrom plus two more that were drafted later; Gee and McHugh. He traded or signed Pedro, Maine, Billy Wagner, Duaner Sanchez, Ollie, Johan, K Rod, and RA Dickey. The Mets under Minaya led the NL in SB 5 times and placed 2nd in the other year.

@  Drucifer : (17 Oct 2017 - 13:06)

And I see there are again ideals of expansion to 32 team with a regional realignment of all teams. The complete realignment is to cut down on the ridiculous air travel. This would put the Mets & Yanks in the same league.

@  Drucifer : (17 Oct 2017 - 13:00)

And fuck any idea of making all fields the same size. I went thru that in the stadium donuts era and baseball generally became a bore.

@  Drucifer : (17 Oct 2017 - 12:52)

Changes in baseball now has an immediate effect on the game because of the thousands of analysts watching everything in baseball. How to take advantages of any change is quickly learn thru out baseball. But changes to ballparks can take years to catch up, if they ever catch up.

@  METS FANG : (17 Oct 2017 - 11:13)

That's a very general statement. How has baseball changed that affects the philosophy that speed and pitching would have killed in original Citifield?

@  Drucifer : (17 Oct 2017 - 10:54)

Well, between when Citi was built and now, baseball has change.

@  Drucifer : (17 Oct 2017 - 10:51)

:goodday:

@  METS FANG : (17 Oct 2017 - 10:03)

Mets did that with Citifield, but then were too stupid to take advantage (built a pitchers park and signed HR hitters instead of a speed demon line up)

@  METS FANG : (17 Oct 2017 - 10:03)

I have no problems with that. Build a stadium that gives you a distinct home field advantage.

@  Saxon : (17 Oct 2017 - 09:41)

and it's a big shocker that the Yanks had the best home record in the AL, while being a below .500 team on the road? and that so far, is how their post season has gone...lose the first 2 on the road, and then win at home...

@  brian stark : (16 Oct 2017 - 19:53)

Yeah, that was a bullshit homer in a bullshit stadium. I mean, seriously, one handed, opposite field? Ridiculous.

@  Canada Mets Fan : (16 Oct 2017 - 19:48)

Typical Yankee Stadium Homer.

@  brian stark : (16 Oct 2017 - 19:18)

We have outfielders. We have first basemen. What we don't have is third basemen, bullpen arms, and depth at starting pitching. Address those first.

@  Drucifer : (16 Oct 2017 - 18:05)

I hope the :Mets: bring back :Bruce: for RF & 1B

What's Boras going to say "Well, Mike is out for the year, maybe even part of 2019." Honesty is not his strong suit. I'll believe Michael is back when he is in the batter's box.

@  METS FANG : (16 Oct 2017 - 10:27)

The issue with data is there is 100 ways to interpret it. So choosing the right way rely's on one's intuition/gut feelings. The flip side, as Brian said, if the data points one way, and your gut is telling you something else, maybe it would be wise to ignore your intuition in that case.

@  Saxon : (16 Oct 2017 - 07:13)

the Dodgers are the Yankees West...

@  West Coast M... : (15 Oct 2017 - 22:02)

Tough watching the Dodgers win, especially with a Turner walk-off

@  West Coast M... : (15 Oct 2017 - 22:01)

Boy watching Contreras behind the plate is amazing. He could give d'Arnaud and Plawicki a few lessons

@  brian stark : (15 Oct 2017 - 15:37)

I never believe 100% what I am TOLD, but if there are FACTUAL DATA that backs up a statement or plan, I'll take that over someone's guess or opinion every single time.

@  brian stark : (15 Oct 2017 - 11:59)

No, but when the majority of the data points one way, it's not usually wise to go the other.

@  Drucifer : (15 Oct 2017 - 11:50)

:goodday:

Sorry Brian, but do you ignore your gut feeling when you're talking business at your job? Or do you believe everything you are being told?

@  brian stark : (15 Oct 2017 - 07:08)

As long as he has some experience, fine. And I'd rather go with the computers and the percentages than the BS "gut" decision.

@  Drucifer : (14 Oct 2017 - 22:37)

The Lannisters 9. North Korea 10. Soviet Union 10. Imperial Japan 11. Nazi Germany, somewhere WAAAAAAY further down, the Yankees...

@  Drucifer : (14 Oct 2017 - 15:18)

I can NEVER root for the Dodgers as I can go back to when they abandon NYC.

@  yogib8 : (14 Oct 2017 - 15:01)

This time of year I root AGAINST teams, and rarely FOR teams.

My rooting interest is the Astros, but my deeper rooting interest is my perennial anti-Maddon going back to 2014 when he opted out of his contract and took Rick Renteria's job which the Cubs had already told him he was returning. Then in 2015 after the Mets swept them, Maddon got Manager of the year, not TC.....this puts me in the unlikely position of rooting for the damn Dodgers.

@  METS FANG : (14 Oct 2017 - 11:16)

just googled. Indians (69), Texans (57), Astros (55) Brew-Crew (49), Padres (49), Mariners (41). All but Indians have never won so years are from formation.

@  brian stark : (13 Oct 2017 - 06:49)

Nats out, Sox out. Now, I need the Spankees out and I would give a fig who wins. This time of year, if the Mets are out, I root AGAINST teams, and rarely FOR teams. Since the Indians are out, I have basically zero rooting interest in any other team.

I didnt see the game but obviously a tough draw with Solvenia and being left out on goal differential. My wife is Polish, born in Krakow so she was elated at Poland actually clinching the WC spot with the group win, albeit in an easy group. I'm hoping the US avoids shame tonight. There's no shame in not qualifying in Europe. Different story in CONCACAF.
