St. Louis Cardinals ‏@Cardinals
Fredbird, wave that flag! The #STLCards down the Reds to keep pace in the Wild Card hunt.

@  brian stark : (29 Sep 2016 - 21:51)

Yeah, but like I said, no matter what, it can't be a BAD night for us. Would be great for both to lose or for the Giants to lose, but we have the spot no matter what with three to go. Just hold on. Win tomorrow.

@  METS FANG : (29 Sep 2016 - 21:43)

Thought we were rooting for cards win, giants loss, on way towards extra tire breaker...

@  brian stark : (29 Sep 2016 - 21:33)

Molina wins it in the bottom of the 9th. Oh, well. Go Rockies.

@  brian stark : (29 Sep 2016 - 21:30)

Colorado jumps out to a 2-0 lead. I'm not too concerned about the Cards game (although a loss would be fine), either way, the more important game is the Giants. If they lose and Cards win, we're up 2 on both with 3 to play. If they win and Cards lose, our magic number drops. If both win, we're still up 1 on SF and 2 on StL with three to go.

@  Drucifer : (29 Sep 2016 - 21:28)

St. Louis Cardinals ‏@Cardinals
The Reds tie it 3-3 in the top of the 9th. Here come the #STLCards in the bottom half of the frame.

@  brian stark : (29 Sep 2016 - 21:23)

Cardinals blew the lead in the 9th, going into the bottom tied 3-3. Giants just started...

@  Saxon : (29 Sep 2016 - 18:31)

same character as the Ben Afflac movie, but much better production...and the actor is much better than Afflac...and the woman that portrays Electra in Season 2 is much hotter than the chick that played Electra in the movies...Jennifer Garner is no Elodie Yung

@  Canada Mets Fan : (29 Sep 2016 - 18:15)

When I hear Daredevil I think of that atrocious Ben Affleck movie.

@  brian stark : (29 Sep 2016 - 18:13)

See, I don't like Harold, because he basically ignores all stats. "Eye test" scouting is primitive. The best thing to do is a good mix of both, eye and number. If there is a tie, numbers break it. Actual results trump "I know it when I see it".

@  Saxon : (29 Sep 2016 - 17:45)

nothing wrong with Saber as a contributing basis, but Kenny just ignores anything that does not fit into his cookie cutter ideals...it's rather fun seeing him and Harold Reynolds argue...Reynolds actually played the game, and is not a disciple of Saber at all...so they just butt heads against each oher

@  Saxon : (29 Sep 2016 - 17:41)

I highly recommend the Dare Devil series (even if you don't try the others)...it is kick ass good, and I love the theme song

@  Canada Mets Fan : (29 Sep 2016 - 17:35)

Sax, you're right on Kenny as a Sabermetric junkie. I find his points interesting, all the same.

@  Canada Mets Fan : (29 Sep 2016 - 17:34)

Haven't seen either of those series. I do like Rosario though, especially her work in Alexander.

@  Saxon : (29 Sep 2016 - 17:19)

apparently there is also at least a 4th and 5th series coming out in the Dare Devil universe of Hell's Kitchen, "The Defenders" (2017) and "The Punisher" (tba). The Punisher (and Electra) were debuted in Season 2 of Dare Devil

@  Saxon : (29 Sep 2016 - 17:04)

CanFan:

Anyone watching the MLB Network? Brian Kenny was talking about the King Kong Kingman seasons of 11 current players, Bruce included. .250 average, less than .320 OBP, and slugging more than .450.

Kenny is a sabermetric nutbag that doesn't see the big picture if it doesn't fit into his cookie cutter approach...power hitters get paid to hit XBH's not to overly worry about the skinny guy stats (walks, singles)...true the ideal power hitters are 5-tool guys, but it isn't their primary role

@  Saxon : (29 Sep 2016 - 17:03)

Rosario Dawson is on all 3 shows (plus any other Netflix shows taking place in Hell's Kitchen)...she is the nurse at the Hospital

@  Saxon : (29 Sep 2016 - 17:02)

Dare Devil is great, Jessica Jones is pretty decent...looking forward to Luke Cage (who is Jessica's friend from her show)

@  METS FANG : (29 Sep 2016 - 16:41)

PS: If you haven't watched either, definitely catch season 1&2 of Dare Devil, and Jessica Jones was ok but no where near as amazing

@  METS FANG : (29 Sep 2016 - 16:41)

Luke Cage is a spin off character from that world

@  METS FANG : (29 Sep 2016 - 16:41)

have you watched the netflix dare devil or Jessica Jones series?

@  Canada Mets Fan : (29 Sep 2016 - 16:23)

Never heard of Luke Cage.

@  brian stark : (29 Sep 2016 - 16:18)

And the King Kong type season is the worst, in a viewing manner. Either a homer or a strikeout. BORING.

@  METS FANG : (29 Sep 2016 - 15:59)

anybody planning on watching the Luke Cage series on Netflix?

@  Canada Mets Fan : (29 Sep 2016 - 15:40)

@  Saxon : (29 Sep 2016 - 15:35)

I would imagine that if you did a comparison of NL only games vs AL only games from the inception of the DH until today (leaving out all Inter-league games), you would see more of a differential

@  Saxon : (29 Sep 2016 - 15:05)

yogi:

The difference AL-NL is microscopic

small sample size...and not taking into account games only played in NL parks vs games only played in AL parks (why is that not an available split?)...Just about any other year that I can view one at a time, there is a larger differential between NL and AL...particularly when you get to the playoffs

@  Saxon : (29 Sep 2016 - 14:58)

yogi:

The DH is more than 40 years old, and while I am not pro DH, I am less opposed now as to when it was used to house the old slow slugger who was to inept to play a field position. Today it is often used to keep players in the lineup while giving them an easier day....Posey, i.e. or to keep a young player's bat who is blocked at his position. The DH could be used to nurse Cabrera through his injury with Reynolds playing SS, or Duda until he is able to play 1B.

agreed as well...

@  West Coast M... : (29 Sep 2016 - 14:58)

I hate off days.

@  Saxon : (29 Sep 2016 - 14:57)

plus how many times have they changed the height of the mound, and changed what is a strike (some times low, some times high, sometimes the black of the plate, and sometimes not, and in the case of the Braves pitchers: sometimes the on-deck circle)...and they have changed what a check swing is, and what a balk is, cripes now you can't even fake to 3rd without it being called a balk because some runners on first bought the fake like idiots

@  Saxon : (29 Sep 2016 - 14:55)

CanFan:

I think MLB should just either adopt it or drop it. I do think it favors the AL in the WS as they have a regular contributing bat all season ready to go who's typically a bopper, while NL teams have to use a bench or platoon player in that role.

Saxon: totally agree...this split crap leaves the NL at a severe disadvantage. and while the purists (the same ones that accept more than a 4 man rotation, an over-reliance on the bullpen, instant replay, batting helmets with ear flaps, hockey masks by catchers and neck flaps to protect from getting Steve Yeager'd in the neck with a bat shard, 3 divisional leagues, 2 wild cards, and inter-league play) may want to totally abolish the DH, it's NEVER EVER EVER GOING TO HAPPEN (according to Taylor Swift, at least)

@  Drucifer : (29 Sep 2016 - 14:23)

:philliesmini: :st: :Posted: - I expect changes on the :Mets: - Why the :philliesmini: can't figure out who's pitching is damn silly in my opinion.

@  yogib8 : (29 Sep 2016 - 14:23)

The difference AL-NL is microscopic AL- ERA 4.22, NL 4.17 AL ER 660, NL ER 654. That is one run per month per team advantage.

@  brian stark : (29 Sep 2016 - 14:03)

DH is an abomination.

@  Canada Mets Fan : (29 Sep 2016 - 13:54)

I don't hate it or love it but I think MLB should just either adopt it or drop it. I do think it favors the AL in the WS as they have a regular contributing bat all season ready to go who's typically a bopper, while NL teams have to use a bench or platoon player in that role.

@  West Coast M... : (29 Sep 2016 - 13:54)

If they do anything to fix the issue it should be to nix the DH, not the other way around. Nothing like having a bunch of has been to hang around simply because the can hit the ball but can't run and the only use they have for a glove is to keep one hand warm.

@  West Coast M... : (29 Sep 2016 - 13:52)

I'm with Brian, I hate the DH.

@  Canada Mets Fan : (29 Sep 2016 - 13:43)

Like Bruce, who's a DH-in-waiting?????

@  Saxon : (29 Sep 2016 - 13:15)

you hear about the batters prolonging their careers by going to the AL where they can DH several times a year...but pitchers do the reverse, jumping to the NL where they can survive longer with deteriorating stuff

@  Saxon : (29 Sep 2016 - 13:13)

Agreed CanFan...and I think that a lot of AL pitchers seek refuge in the NL as they get older because they only have to "dial it up" a few times a game

@  Canada Mets Fan : (29 Sep 2016 - 12:59)

There are other examples but Dickey pops to mind and just about causes a Jays' fan to suffer cardiac arrest.

@  Canada Mets Fan : (29 Sep 2016 - 12:58)

Sax, I agree with you on the AL/NL thing. Just look at any pitcher who have gone from NL to AL and watch their numbers suffer. Look no further than Dickey, for a quick example. He's at best, a .500 pitcher in the AL East and his ERA is 4 or higher every season. I'm not saying one league plays a better brand of baseball than the other, but the AL is much harder on pitchers. Of course, the AL also has some bandbox parks.

@  Drucifer : (29 Sep 2016 - 12:54)

;mets; :stats: & :WC: :updated:

@  Drucifer : (29 Sep 2016 - 12:53)

:goodday:

@  Saxon : (29 Sep 2016 - 12:32)

IMO, a manager should be ejected as soon as a player bunts on a third strike...I hate when I see Terryble do that

@  Saxon : (29 Sep 2016 - 12:30)

but I would imagine that the AL doesn't exploit the candy-ass bunt to the degree that these dinosaur NL managers do

@  Saxon : (29 Sep 2016 - 12:28)

don't know if they track candy-ass sacrifice bunt attempts as well

@  Saxon : (29 Sep 2016 - 12:27)

and almost twice as many intentional walks

@  Saxon : (29 Sep 2016 - 12:27)

yep, I was correct (at least for 2016), more walks/K's/HBP in the NL than AL: http://www.espn.com/...g/type/expanded

@  Saxon : (29 Sep 2016 - 12:25)

I haven't checked, but I would imagine that both the walk ratio and the strike-out ratio are higher in the NL
