@  Drucifer : (05 May 2016 - 20:01)

Alright, who will be up with me for the whole game?

@  Drucifer : (05 May 2016 - 20:00)

:gt: with :SL: plus ;gp; and :gamenotes: :Posted:

@  METS FANG : (05 May 2016 - 19:42)

I think its a fair question - and yes, his second homerun - while making me very very happy - was the trigger that made me think of it. But better then than when he doesn't produce in a highly pivotal part of the game, no?

@  METS FANG : (05 May 2016 - 19:40)

NOT the question: Should Lucas Duda continue to swing hard with big leads? (obvious answer) IS the questions: Does Lucas Dudas production often factor less on win totals than other players due to timeliness?

@  METS FANG : (05 May 2016 - 19:37)

While I regret using the words "pile on" as its detracted significantly from my point, I don't regret the statement on the whole. Yes, I stand by the statement. His stats are heavily skewed from production when production wasn't essential. Is unessential production good? Of course it is. You can never have a lead too large. That doesn't change the fact that my gut tell me when you need big hits, he's not the guy I want standing at the plate. Knit pick all you want about how the statement starts, you've still fully ignored the actual question

@  mjjm367 : (05 May 2016 - 18:18)

I was not aiming for "low hanging fruit", it just seemed off to me, that after a 2 HR day by Duda, that was the response. As for - "The statement isn't about "piling it on" - the statement is about not coming through when in the clutch when you are needed." - well, I wasn't the one who chose the words "pile on stats" in the initial post. Hey, I'm in no way trying to start controversy, or get on anyone. It just seemed a strange reaction to read when I came here to do a little "woo-hooing" after a dominating win.

@  mjjm367 : (05 May 2016 - 18:12)

I specifically responded to the following - you ever get the impression his stats area always pile on stats, and never when its needed?

@  METS FANG : (05 May 2016 - 17:29)

thx yogi

@  yogib8 : (05 May 2016 - 17:22)

If there is still any interest I fixed the chart I posted. It is now clear as to who steps up in the clutch and those who haven't .

@  Saxon : (05 May 2016 - 15:10)

I think that the Mets should release Duda now, so that d'Arnaud doesn't feel guilty when he begins his rehab as a first baseman

@  METS FANG : (05 May 2016 - 14:16)

Let me ask you this. The other day, Mets needed a Pinch hitter and they called on Cespedes. He came through! Would you have been more or less comfortable with Duda in the batters box?

@  METS FANG : (05 May 2016 - 14:15)

Expectations have nothing to do with it. Its in the stats somewhere. Either he comes through in big situations or he doesn't. My gut tells me Duda doesn't. Just like my gut told me for years that if there weer 2 outs in the 9th inning and you needed a single to win, I wanted Derrek Jeter to be my next batter.

@  Drucifer : (05 May 2016 - 14:06)

You expect too much. You want a type of hit and not just any hit in specific situations. Pretty much an impossible feat.

@  Drucifer : (05 May 2016 - 14:03)

;mets; :stats: UPDATED

@  METS FANG : (05 May 2016 - 13:31)

WC gets what I was saying! Thank you bud! :) And you don't have to agree with what I'm saying - you may feel he's VERY clutch. his first 2 run shot yesterday game when it was 2-0, nothing at that point was locked down. Was a big hit! But on the whole, more of his stats feel empty to me than in BIG TIME situations. Does that mean when its 6-0 he shouldn't hit the HR? No, of course not, that would be stupid! But when its a 2-3 game in the 8th and he's up, I'm not filled with good memories off the top of my head

@  METS FANG : (05 May 2016 - 13:29)

handing = low hanging fruit*

@  METS FANG : (05 May 2016 - 13:28)

The statement isn't about "piling it on" - the statement is about not coming through when in the clutch when you are needed.

@  METS FANG : (05 May 2016 - 13:28)

Dru - to repeat - that is focusing on the wrong half of the statement IE: Going for the low handing fruit

@  Drucifer : (05 May 2016 - 13:07)

That somehow an individual player is piling it on by hitting homer - that's stirring up an non existing issue and a poor attempt at creating a real story

@  West Coast M... : (05 May 2016 - 13:06)

Fang, I am with you. There are some players that seem to have a knack for getting big hits, Piazza was one, so is Cespedes, Duda not so much. And saying so doesn't mean he should stop hitting the ball hard when we have a lead just that I would like to see him a) hit more consistently without the prolonged outages and b) get some key hits in big situations like Yo'

@  METS FANG : (05 May 2016 - 12:59)

Me = Confused...

@  METS FANG : (05 May 2016 - 12:59)

use english dru, what are you trying to say? Are we the writers stirring the pot on duda? Do I have to be able to hit a homerun to be able to cook? Me

@  Drucifer : (05 May 2016 - 12:56)

As to the writers commets on Duda -- anyone can stir a pot, it doesn't make you a good cook.

@  thomasam : (05 May 2016 - 11:48)

and actually .910 with RISP

@  thomasam : (05 May 2016 - 11:47)

Meanwhile last year his OPS was .773 with men on and .843 with the bases empty

@  thomasam : (05 May 2016 - 11:46)

but Wright's OPS with RISP is better than with men on--it's not great but better

@  METS FANG : (05 May 2016 - 11:41)

looks like you cut off before duda...

@  yogib8 : (05 May 2016 - 11:10)

the underlying potion that you're not responding to is my impression that he shrinks when needed. Tight games and big at bats, my impression (which may be foiled by facts, purely going subjective here) is that I don't really remember the "Duda comes through! Duda's the hero!" moments.

Is FANG right? The answer is posted on the Lucas Duda thread

@  Saxon : (05 May 2016 - 11:02)

Wright with the bases empty: .357 batting average; 1.174 OPS

@  Saxon : (05 May 2016 - 11:01)

Wright with men on base: ,150 batting average; .467 OPS

@  Saxon : (05 May 2016 - 11:00)

there are several Mets hitters that suck when men are on base, yet perform with the bases empty...a prime example of that (and why I think that he should be batting either leadoff, 7th or 8th) is David Wright

MJ: As it was my comment, I'll respond. You're taking the easy way out on your response. Of course there is nothign wrong with piling on stats. You see ball, you crush ball. Simple story

@  Saxon : (05 May 2016 - 08:46)

in reply to mj: I don't care what the score is...and this goes for any hitter...if you see a pitch that is crushable, you crush it...kudos to Duda for his 6th & 7th homeruns...I like the Lucas Duda that hits the ball hard much better than the Lucas Duda that watches the catcher catch his pitch

@  Canada Mets Fan : (05 May 2016 - 08:28)

I read through this morning too and am still thinking about that supper yogi had. Twice baked potatoes, YUM!

@  mjjm367 : (04 May 2016 - 22:21)

Was just reading through the in-game comments, and the one about Duda's 2nd HR being stats "pile on", and "never when needed" struck me... What is he supposed to do. He was seeing the ball well today. Should he stop trying to put a good swing on the ball due to a 6 run lead?
