@  METS FANG : (29 Sep 2016 - 12:05)

yep, 12 NL players with 30+

NL!!! I misread. Those numbers fall more in line with what I was expecting

@  brian stark : (29 Sep 2016 - 11:47)

You can't WIN with just one guy, but you sure can LOSE without one.

@  Saxon : (29 Sep 2016 - 11:37)

IMO it is the trickle down effect...1 guy may not make the team, but he makes the talent around him better...and at the same time, any weakness in a lineup can be exploited as well...

@  West Coast M... : (29 Sep 2016 - 11:30)

I know Yogi says you can't win with just one guy but sometimes one guy does have a major impact on a team and Cespedes is the epitome of that guy.

@  Saxon : (29 Sep 2016 - 11:27)

good analogy brian...Strawberry may not have had stats that said "wow" compared to the rest of the league's top power hitters; but he was the integral key to those mid-80's Mets offense

@  West Coast M... : (29 Sep 2016 - 11:26)

I agree Brian. That is the primary goal of this off-season. The FO should have gotten this done already IMO. Don't even let him sniff FA again.

@  brian stark : (29 Sep 2016 - 11:19)

Cespedes is the proverbial straw that stirs the drink. He is the most important cog in the machine. Keeping him has to be the primary option for the offseason. The ONLY way it is sensible not to keep him is if the number gets ridiculous. I've seen where someone said to expect 7/200. That's ridiculous. 4/100 is probably the minimum.

@  West Coast M... : (29 Sep 2016 - 10:41)

That doesn't minimize what Cabrera, Walker and Reyes have brought to the team but Cespedes is the one bat in the lineup that is feared.

@  West Coast M... : (29 Sep 2016 - 10:40)

Saxon, I agree on Cespedes. We don't go to the WS last year and we would not be in a position for a WC this year without him.

@  Saxon : (29 Sep 2016 - 10:37)

overall 35 MLB players with 30+ with several more with 27+ http://www.espn.com/..._/sort/homeRuns

@  Saxon : (29 Sep 2016 - 10:36)

yep, 12 NL players with 30+ http://www.espn.com/...Runs/order/true

@  METS FANG : (29 Sep 2016 - 10:23)

from all the talk of "the year of the HR" I'd assumed it was much higher

@  METS FANG : (29 Sep 2016 - 10:23)

is it really only 12?

@  Saxon : (29 Sep 2016 - 09:59)

I just realize this morning that out of only 12 NL players having 30+ Homeruns this season, the Mets have 3 of them in their Outfield: Cespedes, Bruce and Grandy

@  Saxon : (29 Sep 2016 - 09:58)

no problem

@  METS FANG : (29 Sep 2016 - 09:56)

thx

@  Saxon : (29 Sep 2016 - 09:51)

sure...I copied and pasted that from a FB post of mine...

@  METS FANG : (29 Sep 2016 - 09:47)

want to throw those number into the thread to potentially foster longer conversation? :)

@  Saxon : (29 Sep 2016 - 09:25)

sorry yogi

@  Saxon : (29 Sep 2016 - 09:24)

Mets are 70-54 when Cespedes starts, and are 15-20 when he does not...and that 70-54 doesn't take into account the games that he played hurt...despite Yogi's thread, this team would be lost without Yoenis

@  Saxon : (29 Sep 2016 - 09:21)

On August 19th, SF Giants were 68-54 and the Mets were 60-62. Mets were well behind the Giants in the Wild Card race after getting clobbered 8-1 by the Giants. This was Yoenis Cespedes first game back from injury. Mets have since gone 22-10 in games that Cespedes has started & are now ahead of the Giants in the top wild card standings...

@  Canada Mets Fan : (29 Sep 2016 - 09:13)

And what TJ has given us too. He has shown a knack for putting the bat on the ball which in this day of strikeouts and home runs, is a neglected skill.

@  Canada Mets Fan : (29 Sep 2016 - 09:12)

I know I'm repeating myself and sorry for that, but I continue to be impressed with the call up SPs we're using. Even if it all falls apart now, the story of the 2nd half of the season has to be the play of Gsellman and Lugo. Aside from the walking infirmary the team has become of course.

@  METS FANG : (29 Sep 2016 - 08:46)

Looking back, season start, I think I had predicted 92-95 wins on the season, but all things considered with the pitching staff we've contended with, how few games we got from Wright and Duda, 87 ain't bad (want a series win going into playoffs)

@  brian stark : (29 Sep 2016 - 06:45)

We're 2.5 up on St Loo, 1.5 up on the Gints. Magic number to clinch a spot is 2, Magic number to clinch home game is 4. Quicker we knock that out, the better. Save Noah for the one game.

@  Canada Mets Fan : (29 Sep 2016 - 06:43)

Really??? Maybe the baseball stars are finally aligning for the Mets.

@  brian stark : (29 Sep 2016 - 06:25)

Wow, watching Sportscenter, the Cards had a leadoff triple in the ninth, could not bring him in to tie the game. We caught a break and a half there...

@  brian stark : (29 Sep 2016 - 06:08)

Oh, our magic number is two.

@  brian stark : (29 Sep 2016 - 05:37)

FANTASTIC night, could not ask for more. Now, we relax for the last time this year. What I'd like to see tonight is a Cards win and a Giants loss. Gains us some ground, ties them up. Optimal result by the end of game 162 is us in the top spot with them needing to play the extra game and burning their aces to advance to our matchup.

@  Drucifer : (29 Sep 2016 - 02:05)

:nightall:

@  Jambo : (29 Sep 2016 - 01:37)

Yes a good night all round

@  abat : (29 Sep 2016 - 01:35)

Good set of results to get up to

@  METS FANG : (29 Sep 2016 - 00:25)

Amazing gift, to the reds and Rockies

@  West Coast M... : (29 Sep 2016 - 00:18)

Giants lose too!

@  METS FANG : (29 Sep 2016 - 00:04)

One or away from being 1.5 up in home field with 3 to play

@  Drucifer : (28 Sep 2016 - 23:19)

@  METS FANG : (28 Sep 2016 - 22:06)

Cards lose! 2.5 with 3 to play?

@  brian stark : (28 Sep 2016 - 21:14)

Mets now 25-12 in their last 37...

@  brian stark : (28 Sep 2016 - 21:12)

Solid win, now go to Philthy and kick some ass.

@  Drucifer : (28 Sep 2016 - 21:10)

:bks:

@  brian stark : (28 Sep 2016 - 20:59)

Man, Grandy is white hot right now...

@  brian stark : (28 Sep 2016 - 20:58)

Close this one out, then worry about the next game.

@  Canada Mets Fan : (28 Sep 2016 - 20:53)

Another solid effort by Lugo. Next man up...

@  METS FANG : (28 Sep 2016 - 20:52)

agreed

@  brian stark : (28 Sep 2016 - 20:33)

Most important thing is to win today. (each day) That way, it does not matter what happens behind us.

@  METS FANG : (28 Sep 2016 - 20:30)

that was my issue with the 3 way tie. while I understand the premise, you almost hate the idea of having to burn your ace in game 1 and lose just to go against the next teams ace in game 2

@  METS FANG : (28 Sep 2016 - 20:29)

that would be fantastic Brian

@  brian stark : (28 Sep 2016 - 20:20)

I'd love for us to clinch, the Cards and Giants tie. Then, they would have to play a play-in, burn miles and an arm, and have to play us the next day. Wear those suckers out...

@  brian stark : (28 Sep 2016 - 20:12)

I'm pulling for the Giants to lose even more than the Cards...
