Smith is Duda replacement. It will take another like Smith, but a year or two farther along to get Smith ;sa; tight hands. The Mets are loaded with a bunch of untested options that they need to go thru first before you talk Smith.

@  Drucifer : (24 May 2016 - 14:59)

:goodday:

@  West Coast M... : (24 May 2016 - 13:31)

I wouldn't trade Smith for a rental either. I would consider trading him only for a long term solution. My concern is everyone is looking for a short term piece expecting Duda back. The Duda we get back may be sapped of his power like Wright was when he returned from his fractured back. Duda less the power element leaves you with a Campbell like hitter, we have enough of those.

@  brian stark : (24 May 2016 - 12:55)

Well, Smith is ONLY 20 for crying out loud, and power is the last trait to develop. He's showing doubles power now, and as he ages and fills out, those doubles should start going over the fence. He might not be a 30 homer guy, but I could see him as a 15-20 homer guy, with .275/.350 splits. His defensive reputation is high. He sounds like a Keith Hernandez/John Olerud type. I don't trade that potential for a short term rental.

@  West Coast M... : (24 May 2016 - 12:49)

The good thing is that trades are Sandy's strength. So I look to see him work some magic....again!! :)

@  METS FANG : (24 May 2016 - 12:42)

btw - I wholeheartedly disagree on the Smith front, but thats a different conversation

@  METS FANG : (24 May 2016 - 12:42)

If you're crossing Smith off, then you're really looking for the future piece, which is going to cost a whole lot more than what we'd want to give and likely not available via trade at this point in the season.

@  West Coast M... : (24 May 2016 - 12:33)

I think for the right piece as a long term solution you give up farm pieces. Duda is not the answer and with Smith's lack of power I have reservation that he is as well.

@  brian stark : (24 May 2016 - 11:04)

Well, Lucroy is a right handed batter, d'A is right handed too, so the platoon idea would not work. Duda is a lefty, so you COULD work a 3 for 2 platoon in those two spots. I'd list my preferences as 1. Wright 2. Flores 3. Lucroy (depending on cost)

@  METS FANG : (24 May 2016 - 10:17)

and then you bench TdA when back? As I said, I keep the farm piece, I play Flores

@  thomasam : (24 May 2016 - 10:10)

Because if you're bringing Lucroy in there's no way he's not catching after Duda is back

@  thomasam : (24 May 2016 - 10:10)

Really it would be a redirection, and right in the middle of the year

@  thomasam : (24 May 2016 - 10:08)

Yeah, it's a big commitment for a short period

@  METS FANG : (24 May 2016 - 09:48)

We're talking 30-40 games. At best, we're talking about a WAR of 1-2 between Duda and Flores in that time?

@  METS FANG : (24 May 2016 - 09:47)

I don't pay the catcher premium price tag for a first baseman

@  METS FANG : (24 May 2016 - 09:46)

I prob stand pat for now

@  thomasam : (24 May 2016 - 09:16)

That might actually still be worth it though, Lucroy is solid

@  thomasam : (24 May 2016 - 09:16)

Lucroy would be great here but there's no way they don't ask for Dominic Smith or Herrera and someone else like Cecchini

@  thomasam : (24 May 2016 - 09:15)

I was watching the game while "real life" interacting with the wife so didn't catch the banter last night but there was some goods stuff to talk about

@  West Coast M... : (24 May 2016 - 08:05)

Your wrong abat, it was a nice result to sleep over! :)

Solid win, now let's get one with our #5 pitcher tomorrow, Harvey.

@  West Coast M... : (23 May 2016 - 21:34)

DW to 1B is not a good idea at this point. He has cut back at practice at 3B as a concession for his back. Learning a new position takes reps. I don't think he can afford to do that right now.

@  brian stark : (23 May 2016 - 21:15)

90 pitches for Big Sexy through 7. I'd let him go 8. He's beating a winning team for the first time in a while, and shoving it right up the ol' keister to boot. We really needed this.

@  mjjm367 : (23 May 2016 - 21:11)

Evening fellas. Caught up to live action on the DVR.

@  brian stark : (23 May 2016 - 21:05)

Too much, IMO.

@  Saxon : (23 May 2016 - 20:38)

Lucroy for Harvey?

@  Saxon : (23 May 2016 - 20:35)

Lucroy would be nice...then we could go with 3 catchers with all rotating thru 1st base (d'Arnaugh getting the most 1B and LuCroy getting the most catching...with Plaw backing up both)

@  brian stark : (23 May 2016 - 20:34)

BELLY TO BELLY!

@  yogib8 : (23 May 2016 - 20:24)

Flores isn't an everyday, he is a utility player. They have is number, he has no power away. He hasn't had an extra base hit to the opposite field since 2014.

@  brian stark : (23 May 2016 - 20:21)

Lucroy would cost the farm? I don't think so. Maybe a prospect but the farm?

@  brian stark : (23 May 2016 - 20:21)

Murphy is hitting well, no doubt, but his BABIP is almost .410 now. That is NOT going to last.

@  yogib8 : (23 May 2016 - 20:21)

I'm not in love with Wallace or Loney, but they would be cheap and can play 1B. Lucroy would be a good addition, but to get him we would need to give the brewers the keys to the farm and tell them to turn the lights out when they finished filling the bus.

@  Saxon : (23 May 2016 - 20:20)

Arod's always wanted to be a Met...and the Yanks suck so they could have a fire sale...Arod for Harvey, get it done Omar

@  brian stark : (23 May 2016 - 20:17)

Ryan Howard might be released by the Phils. I kid, I kid...

@  Saxon : (23 May 2016 - 20:07)

there was this guy named Rod Carew that kind of blew as a 2nd baseman, but was more than adequate as a 1st baseman

@  Saxon : (23 May 2016 - 20:06)

it's really not that big of a stretch for a veteran 2nd baseman to transition well to 1st...he's already on that side of the field viewing grounders/liners; and he covers 1st quite a bit on bunts, etc

@  Saxon : (23 May 2016 - 20:05)

interesting option also is moving Walker to 1st and bringing up Dilson

@  brian stark : (23 May 2016 - 20:03)

Give me Flores over those two.

@  Saxon : (23 May 2016 - 20:01)

I realize that you dislike Flo...but Wallace/Loney are aged junk...how are either better than giving Flo actual playing time?

@  yogib8 : (23 May 2016 - 19:58)

Two possibilities are with the Padres, Solarte just came off the DL making Brett Wallace 1B/3B possibly available hitting .213/.388/.400 with moderate power. The Padres also have James Loney at AAA with an opt out if he is offered a ML job. .280/.322/.357 in 2015

@  brian stark : (23 May 2016 - 19:58)

Several hits in a row, when was the last time we've seen that???

@  Saxon : (23 May 2016 - 19:57)

I was being serious about batting Grandy further down the order...DW leadoff with Cabrera 2nd...Conforto 3rd with Cespedes 4th...Grandy 5th...Flo/Walker 6/7 depending on whether we were facing a RHP/LHP (Walker 6th vs RHP; Flo 6th vs LHP)...
