@  yogib8 : (29 Jun 2016 - 20:14)

Ugh. Bastardo. Game over.

Even though he pitched a clean inning doesn't mean you're wrong

@  brian stark : (29 Jun 2016 - 20:13)

Verrett gave us a good effort, too bad there is NO offense going on tonight (or most other nights...)

@  yogib8 : (29 Jun 2016 - 20:10)

It figures that after 90+ pitches they will send him down after using the BP so heavily

@  Canada Mets Fan : (29 Jun 2016 - 20:07)

A workman like effort from Verrett. Hard to win with one hit.

@  yogib8 : (29 Jun 2016 - 20:05)

Bastardo pitched well for the Phils last year

@  yogib8 : (29 Jun 2016 - 20:04)

Is Verrett on the plane yet

@  brian stark : (29 Jun 2016 - 20:04)

I was kind of happy when we signed Tony the Bastard (love his name, and he did have a good track record), but after a decent start, he has been pretty bad lately.

@  brian stark : (29 Jun 2016 - 20:03)

Ugh. Bastardo. Game over.

@  yogib8 : (29 Jun 2016 - 20:01)

Pretty high wall out there

@  brian stark : (29 Jun 2016 - 20:00)

Walker JUST missed that one...

@  yogib8 : (29 Jun 2016 - 19:50)

Ump likes the high strike

@  yogib8 : (29 Jun 2016 - 19:43)

Robin Roberts

@  Canada Mets Fan : (29 Jun 2016 - 19:41)

I know Scherzer is a great pitcher but I think I could beat this lineup right now.

@  yogib8 : (29 Jun 2016 - 19:41)

All those K's have elevated Scherzer's count, but Verrett is closing on his most pitches thrown this season

@  Drucifer : (29 Jun 2016 - 19:40)

Really, when will the Mets score a run?

@  brian stark : (29 Jun 2016 - 19:35)

Ugh, this is painful to watch.

@  yogib8 : (29 Jun 2016 - 19:25)

They are acting like Scherzer is Kershaw and Scherzer is vulnerable to the long ball

@  yogib8 : (29 Jun 2016 - 19:20)

True

@  Canada Mets Fan : (29 Jun 2016 - 19:17)

There's just no life in this team. 2-0 feels like 7-0.

@  yogib8 : (29 Jun 2016 - 19:09)

Verrett at 50 pitches

@  yogib8 : (29 Jun 2016 - 18:59)

Maybe there is some ficus dna in Nimmo

@  Canada Mets Fan : (29 Jun 2016 - 18:59)

Terrible route.

@  brian stark : (29 Jun 2016 - 18:57)

Nimmo really misplayed that one badly...

@  yogib8 : (29 Jun 2016 - 18:55)

Flores, as long as he is hitting is being wasted hitting down in the order. Since replacing Wright he is hitting .280/.341/.415 but is hitting in front of Plawecki, Rivera, Conforto and Loney. He has had some RBI opportunities but has been left stranded to often. Flores' power is on his pull side, pitchers with command can nullify the power by pitching him outside. Since last June He has hit 9 Hrs. in 450 PA.

@  brian stark : (29 Jun 2016 - 18:38)

Dilson is not a 3/4/5, IMO, and I think Nimmo (if he is legit) is a better #2 option with his (apparent) batting eye. That leaves 6/7/8.

@  mjjm367 : (29 Jun 2016 - 17:58)

I've got higher hopes for Herrera than the 7 or 8 spot in the batting order.

@  brian stark : (29 Jun 2016 - 17:48)

That was my point, though. Dilson is the 2B of the future, meaning next year. Rosario is the SS of the future, maybe next year. I think Flores will probably be the 3B, and he does have some evident power, after all, last year, in sporatic play, he had 16 homers. Dominic Smith is the 1B of the future, maybe 2017, maybe 2018. Rosario could be the leadoff guy. If Nimmo proves himself, he's the #2. Conforto #3. Flores would be a good 5 or 6, Lagares at 7 or 8. Dilson at 7 or 8. The problem is that we just don't have a true #4 or reliable catcher. IF (and this is an extraordinary if) d'Arnaud could manage to stay healthy, that would be great, but there is no evidence so far that he can and that is a problem. Plawecki is a huge disappointment both offensively and defensively. For a relative "contender", there is going to be a WHOLE lot of changes coming up.

@  mjjm367 : (29 Jun 2016 - 17:46)

Sometimes, this supposed oasis of rationality descends into the territory of the Metsblog comments section.

@  mjjm367 : (29 Jun 2016 - 17:45)

Oooooohhh..... "hatred" in the Shoubox this afternoon. What's next, calling someone a poopy-tinkle head? (A dire insult when I was in Kindergarten.) Has someone called Terry stupid yet?

@  yogib8 : (29 Jun 2016 - 16:22)

Conforto was projecting 25 Hrs and he is 23 with more power likely. Nimmo may/may not develop power but Alex Gordon and Markakis, both 1st rnd. picks have put together good careers without major power. I doubt that Lags will be a double digit Hr. guy, but his glove up the middle and his OBP make up for the lack of power. Sorry to offend but Cabrera is the only IF carry over, C, 1B, 2B and 3B all need to be replaced or upgraded. Duda has one year of arb. left, but 9M is too much for a injury prone streaky player...maybe TdA can play 1B. Walker will be 31 and resigning him is no upside...just risk. Flores doesn't have the power for a C-IF and has been exposed by overplaying him in the past. Doesn't mean that Flores can't be a player with 1B, 2B and 3B value.

yog, in reference to the MC/Lags/Nimmo outfield... IF they can produce, I think at least defensively that would be fine. No power to speak of, and no real speed. Conforto MIGHT be the best of the bunch, provided he gets his head back on straight (which I think he will). Nimmo could be the OBP guy, provided his minor league stats translate, but that is a HUGE question mark. Lagares is the only relatively "sure" one of the bunch. I think he would be a .280/10-15/75 guy if fully healthy and playing every day eventually. The infield is where it will get interesting very soon.

  • Are ;mets; :fans: seeing a repeat of Generation K?

@  yogib8 : (29 Jun 2016 - 12:31)

Outstanding response snark, much improved over your usual na nana na nah. All that aside, what do you think of Conforto-Lags-Nimmo as the OF of the future after we dump Grady and trade Pusdeses

@  brian stark : (29 Jun 2016 - 11:24)

I saw it clear as day, I guess you could not see mine for your OWN hatred...

@  yogib8 : (29 Jun 2016 - 11:19)

Didn't see the intended humor....hate is blinding

@  brian stark : (29 Jun 2016 - 11:06)

Better OF that Murphy? Hell, a potted Ficus is a better OF than Murph, that's not saying much...

@  yogib8 : (29 Jun 2016 - 10:38)

Hear ye, hear ye; from this place and in this time after considerable examination and thought... I declare that Nimmo is the new Murphy. Sweet swing, uncanny instincts and actually a better OF. This is the dawning of the Conforto-Lagares-Nimmo OF

@  Canada Mets Fan : (29 Jun 2016 - 08:09)
