Happy Birthday Carlos Beltran!

Written by Brandon Lee 10:10 AM, April 24th, 2011

Happy birthday to Carlos Beltran, who celebrates his 34th birthday today!

During Beltran's seven seasons on the Mets his be an All-Star four times, won three Gold Gloves, and has won the Silver Slugger Award twice. With the Mets he has a career .279 batting average and a .366 OBP. He has 137 home runs, 502 RBI and 97 stole bases.

Personally, Carlos is one of my favorite players on the Mets, and if the team doesn't bring him back next season they are going to miss him a lot. When healthy, he is the best all-around outfielder in baseball. But that's just what I think.

PostGame: Mets vs. Diamondbacks ~ 04.23

Written by Brandon Lee 19:19 PM, April 23rd, 2011

The Mets (8-13) defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks (8-11) at Citi Field by the final score of 6-4. The start of the game was delayed due to rain, and there was a question on whether or not they would be able to play the game. But the rain let up, and the Mets won their third straight game, putting them five games under .500.

Dillon Gee (2-0) started for the Mets and pitched well, going six innings, giving up four runs (two of them were earned runs), five hits, one walk and five strike outs. Gee earned his second win in as many starts, and his ERA is now at 2.31.

Barry Enright started for the Diamondbacks and wasn't fooling the Mets at all, but was able to keep his team in it and battle around the hits. He went 5.2 innings giving up five runs on 12 hits, one walk and two strike outs.

Trailing 1-0 after the top of the first inning, the Mets answer right back. With Jose Reyes (walk) on third and David Wright (single and a stolen base) on second with two out, Jason Bay smacked a single to center field, bringing in both runners to make it 2-1.

With two outs in the fourth inning Bay crushed an opposite field solo home run, his first of the year, to make it 3-1. The next batter Ike Davis hit a solo home run to right field that landed about 20 rows back in the upper deck, to make it 4-1. It was Davis' fourth home run of the year and his third in the past three games. It was the first time the Mets have hit back-to-back home runs this season.

In the top of the fifth inning with a runner on first, Miguel Montero hit a ground ball to Daniel Murphy's left side, who, instead of getting the sure out at first, tried to get the runner out at second base. He ended up missing the ball altogether, and the DBacks had runners at first and second with one out. Ryan Roberts then hit a foul pop-up that Davis over ran trying to make an over-the-shoulder catch, and it hit off his glove. He then hit a sharp single up the middle to drive in a run and make it 4-2. With two outs Gerardo Parra hit a single to center field to bring in another run to make it 4-3.

In the top of the sixth, Montero crushed a solo home run to the bridge in right-center field, to tie the game up at 4-4.

With one out in the bottom of the sixth with one out, Justin Turner hit a pinch-hit double to right field. Later with two outs, Murphy slapped a single to right field to bring in Turner and make it 5-4.

In the bottom of the eighth inning with two outs, Reyes hit a single that almost took the David Hernandez's head off. Hernandez then balked with allowed Reyes to go to second. Murphy then singled to right field to bring in Reyes to make it 6-4.

Frankie Rodriguez came on for the save in the ninth and allowed back-to-back singles with one out. With runners on second and third, Frankie struck out  ex-Met Xavier Nady for the second out and then got Chris Young swinging to end the game, earning his fourth save of the year, and giving the Mets a 6-4 victory.

Final Say:

Very nice win for the Mets today, who are now 3-0 since Jason Bay returned to the line-up. All six of their runs were scored with two outs, which is a great sign. Gee pitched solid besides a rough first and fourth inning but with Chris Young set to come off the DL on Tuesday, this might have been his last start. Gee is too good to be sent down to the minors and I think the right move would be to put him in the bullpen.

Murphy looked a little lost at second base today, making that error in the fourth and covering first base when he should have been covering second base, but he made up for it with two, two out RBIs and drove in the game winning run.

I'm could get use to watching Izzy come out in the eighth in for the whole year. Gave up a hit and a stolen base, but he didn't allow a run, collected two strike outs and earned his third hold of the year. Ladies and gentleman, I think the Mets have found their new set-up man.

Reyes got on base three times today and didn't steal a base, kind of disappointed in that. In any case, he his red hot right now, getting his average up to .323 and his OBP to .364. Maybe they should trade him now…

I haven't found out how far Davis' ball want yet or if they are still waiting for it to land to measure it, but it had to be around 450 feet. The thing was an absolute bomb.

Next Game:

The Mets will go for their first series sweep of 2011 taking on the Arizona Diamondbacks in the final game of the three game series. Jon Niese will take the mound for the Mets and he'll be opposed by Armando Galarraga. Game time is set for 1:10 PM with the game being aired on SNY.

LineUps: Diamondbacks vs. Mets ~ 04.23

Written by Brandon Lee 11:11 AM, April 23rd, 2011

Well, if there is a game today it's scheduled for 1:10 P.M. at Citi Field with Dillon Gee taking on Barry Enright. However, if this rain holds up, Mets might be looking at their third doublheader of the season… and it's still only April.

DBacks line-up has two changes to it from last night. Ex-Met Melvin Mora will be at third instead of Ryan Robert and Juan Miranda will be at first instead of Russell Branyan.

The Mets line-up is pretty much the same as last last night's. Only difference is Josh Thole is catching instead of Mike Nickeas. I really like this line-up for the Mets right now. Would be nice to have Angel Pagan in there, but the way he was hitting it wasn't the worst thing in the world to give him some time off.

Pagan DL’d, Pridie Called Up

Written by Brandon Lee 11:11 AM, April 23rd, 2011

Yesterday, the Mets placed center fielder Angel Pagan on the DL with… you guessed it, a strained left oblique muscle. Pagan is expected to miss at least two weeks. To take his place on the roster the Mets recall Jason Pridie.

Pagan has been struggling so far in 2011, hitting just .159 with a .259 OBP. Maybe this time off will be good for him and when he comes back we'll see the 2010 Angel Pagan. I like that version a lot better than this one.

Paulino Strains His Oblique… Of Course

Written by Brandon Lee 11:11 AM, April 23rd, 2011

Last night Ronny Paulino left his rehab assignment Triple-A with a strained oblique. He was rehabbing when a physical revealed he was suffering from anemia. He was suppose to return next week, but that his highly unlikely now. His status is now unclear and his return will most certainly be delayed. Good news for Mike Nickeas at least.

The New York Mets lost another close game yesterday. If they made the right pitch, got one timely hit, or made the right decision they could have won a lot of these games they've lost. But they haven't. Now they are 4-7, and have dropped three in a row and six of their last seven. In watching the Mets so far this you have to be happy with what you see so far. Their starters are putting up solid performances and their line-up is a good mix between speed and power. Their bullpen has been decent too, giving up three runs in the four games. One of those was be Francisco Rodriguez and lead to a blown save, but the Mets went on to win that game anyway.  Doe...
