Series Preview: Marlins vs. Mets (09/05 ~ 09/07)

Written by Drucifer 17:17 PM, September 5th, 2011

New York Mets

@

Florida Marlins

Sun Life Stadium
Sun Life Stadium

Monday, 5th September, 7:10 PM EDT
Sun Life Stadium

Chris Capuano, LH (10-11, 4.41)

Javier Vazquez, RH (8-11, 4.42)

Scouting Report:

METS: Capuano was an inning shy of a quality start Wednesday against Florida, giving up two runs in five innings. He has made it through at least five frames in each of his 26 starts this season. Capuano is a lifetime 7-11 in September with a 4.68 ERA.

MARLINS: Vazquez became the 30th pitcher to reach 2,500 strikeouts when he beat the Mets in New York on Aug. 30. With two more, he will tie Christy Mathewson for 29th all-time. Vazquez is 3-3 with a 3.08 ERA and 60 strikeouts since July 16.

Tuesday, 6th September, 7:10 PM EDT
Sun Life Stadium

Miguel Batista, RH (1-0, 3.00)

Chris Volstad, RH (5-12, 5.48)

Scouting Report:

METS: Batista earned his 100th career win in his Mets debut Thursday in a win over the Marlins. The veteran will give a banged-up pitching staff some experience that should help in the final month.

MARLINS: Volstad deserved better in his last start, when he had some tough luck vs. the host Mets. In 6 1/3 innings, he allowed three runs, two earned, on seven hits. He had 13 groundouts. Volstad is 1-3 in his career vs. New York, including 0-1 this year.

Wednesday, 7th September, 5:10 PM EDT
Sun Life Stadium

R.A. Dickey, RH (7-11, 3.60)

Brad Hand, LH (1-5, 4.23)

Scouting Report:

METS: An unfortunate trend continued for Dickey against the Brewers, when he pitched well enough to win but got only a no-decision. The knuckleballer has not won any of his last five outings, despite logging quality starts in each of them.

MARLINS: Hand takes over Clay Hensley's spot in the rotation with the latter's move back to the bullpen. In his last start against the Phillies, Hand lost after going five innings and giving up four runs — three earned — on four hits with three walks.
