Carl Crawford and the Tampa Bay Rays have decided to postpone all contract extension negotiations until after the season, according to Marc Topkin of the St.Petersburg Times. Crawford, who will turn 29 in August, is expected to receive a contract worth about 5 years $75MM.
Crawford’s agent, Brian Peters, stated:
“We had an opportunity to exchange ideas with the club about a contract extension for Carl and it was clear to all of us that an immediate agreement was not going to materialize. Thus, we all agreed to table discussions until the end of the year. We’d like to minimize distractions for Carl and the club and keep the focus on baseball, so we don’t plan to comment upon Carl’s contract status again until after the season.”
Crawford posted a .305/.364/.452/.816 line to go along with a 17.6 UZR and a 5.5 WAR, according to FanGraphs(for further notice, check the link connected to the players name for more stats via fangraphs).
I would love to look into Crawford, but with Bay planted in left, I doubt he becomes an option for the Mets in the future. However, the thought of Reyes and Crawford at the top of the lineup and in the field can make any fan dream.
