Rumor: Francoeur Wants to Start

Written by Tyler M 23:23 PM, August 10th, 2010

First off, thanks to Andy McCullough at the Star Ledger for this rumor. Jeff Francoeur has been benched to make youngster Fernando Martinez the everyday right fielder. Francoeur's agent was not too happy.

“We want to play every day,” Francoeur’s agent Molly Fletcher said yesterday. “We prefer to play in New York. But if we’re not going to play every day in New York, we absolutely welcome the opportunity to play every day somewhere else.”

Francoeur currently has a 1 year contract, and the Mets could choose to cut ties with him after this season. Before this year, Francoeur had always been a starter since he played Little League. This is the second time he has been removed from the starter's role, the first being when Carlos Beltran returned to the team.

Links: Fred Wilpon’s Day

Written by Tyler M 16:16 PM, August 10th, 2010

Randy Medina, over at The Apple, teamed up with someone known as Larry Smith to see what Fred Wilpon's day is like. This made me laugh so much. It is is two parts, so two links. Here you go:

Sean Green Close to Returning

Written by Tyler M 8:08 AM, August 10th, 2010

According to Adam Rubin at ESPN New York relief pitcher Sean Green will be returning to the Mets very soon. Green has been on the disabled list since April 7th. Originally it was believed to have been a strained rib-cage muscle that landed him on the disabled, but it was actually a cracked rib. Green made one appearance before being placed on the disabled list. Remember, Green came to the Mets in the trade that sent away J.J. Putz.

I think it is going to be interesting to see how Green pitches when he returns. Who will go down? I think the odd man out will be Manny Acosta, if the return is before the rosters expand on September first. I think the next week or 2 will be an audition between some relievers to try and stay up.

Get After It

Written by Tyler M 7:07 AM, August 10th, 2010

Good Twitter post there by Matthew Cerrone. The Mets haven't been giving 100%, but the Braves and Phillies have, and it showing in their records. The Mets need to "Get After It" and put it in gear.

Return of Eyes of a Teen 1.0

Written by Tyler M 17:17 PM, August 9th, 2010

Well, this was an old segment, and I am going to bring it back. Every week an Eyes of a Teen post will be going up, usually on an off-day. So here is Segment 1.0, a perspective of the Mets from the eyes of a teenager.

Welcome, to the eyes of a teenager. The Mets just had a terrible week against 2 division rivals they needed to beat. The Atlanta Braves won 2 games, as did the Phillies. The Mets won 2 out of the 6. They made a move to make me happy though. They released Alex Cora and demoted Jesus Feliciano. In their places? Fernando Martinez and Ruben Tejada. I enjoy the Tejada recall because I liked what I saw from him when Luis Castillo was injured and Tejada was playing everyday. Now Tejada is playing everyday without Castillo hurt. Big move? Yes. Sure Castillo provides a bit more offensively, but Tejada provides a lot more defensively. The thing is though, this team isn't headed into the direction it should be going. Some people will blame Castillo or Jeff Francoeur but the problem lies in more deep. I have a tendency to blame Jerry Manuel, Omar Minaya, and Fred Wilpon for everything, but I don't think that will cause anything right now. The problem is fundamentals. Jose Reyes was making errors on a lot of easy plays last week, Jerry can't be blamed for that. Jason Bay has slumped badly this year, again not management's fault. Who is to blame though? I think its partially the lack of a leader. The team has wanted David Wright to be a leader for years but he just isn't up for it. Get over it Mets, find someone else. Francouer, Ike Davis, Reyes, Johan Santana. Try asking one of them to step up and be a leader. Get Howard Johnson and Dan Warthen to do what they did in Spring Training. HoJo got Francoeur to be more patient for a couple weeks. Warthen got the yips out of Mike Pelfrey and made him look like an ace. Go back to the way things were back then, with some changes. In conclusion, here is what the Mets need to do:

  1. Get HoJo to teach Francoeur to be more patient.
  2. Get Pelfrey back to his pre-All Star Break form.
  3. Find a leader, other than Wright who doesn't want to be one.
  4. Go back to the time this year when the Mets were all having fun, and the results they were getting showed it.

  • Note: Takahashi to Return to Rotation

    Post on: 19:19 PM, August 8th, 2010

Before today's game, the Mets announced that Hisanori Takahashi will be returning to the rotation. His next start has been announced as Saturday against the Phillies. Takahashi's last start was July 31st against the D'backs, when he went 6 innings allowing a run on 7 hits, walking 2 and striking out 10. Since then, Takahashi has made 2 relief appearances. Wednesday in Atlanta...

  • Post-Game: Mets Can’t Rally to Beat Halladay, Lose to Phils 6-5

    Post on: 18:18 PM, August 8th, 2010

Sometimes, being on the road is a good thing. Today it worked out to be a good thing, as I missed the Phillies scored all their runs. On a day the Mets needed R.A. Dickey to provide a win, he couldn't do so. He only got through 3 innings, allowing 8 hits, 6 runs (4 earned) walking 1 and allowing 2 home runs. Roy Halladay didn't pitch too well either, but he kept th...

  • Francoeur powers Mets to victory, beat Phillies 1-0

    Post on: 22:22 PM, August 7th, 2010

Listen to Audio Commentary HERE Jeff Francoeur showed his haters, so did Johan Santana. Johan pitched brilliantly, going 7.1 innings allowing 5 hits, and, of course, no runs. Francisco Rodriguez did not provide much drama in his 1.2 innings getting a save, allowing only a walk. I h...

  • Return of Eyes of a Teen 2.0

    Post on: 23:23 PM, August 6th, 2010

As the Mets head into a 4-game series with the Houston Astros and then a 3-game series with the Pittsburgh Pirates, they need a 5-2 road trip. They just had a LONG 3-game series with the Philadelphia Phillies in which they dropped 2 of the 3 games. The one win? A 1-0 win that R.A. Dickey threw a 1-hit complete-game shutout. If I had any belief in this team making the playoffs, it is real...

  • Post-Game: Mets drop game 1 in Philly, lose 7-5

    Post on: 23:23 PM, August 6th, 2010

These Mets are starting to really let the fans down. Jon Niese had an excellent start, going 7 innings allowing 1 run on 4 hits and striking out 7, but walking 5. He left with the lead. Bobby Parnell had a terrible outing in relief, blowing it in the 8th. The Phils scored 4 runs on 4 hits, without an out recorded against Parnell. Pedro Feliciano...
