Pettitte To Retire

Written by Brandon Lee 17:17 PM, February 3rd, 2011

Michael Kay reports that free agent pitcher Andy Pettitte is set to announce his retirement from the MLB. Pettitte played for 16 seasons, 13 of them with the New York Yankees and three of them with the Houston Astros. He had an offer from the Yankees for millions of dollars, but he turns it down to hang up his spikes.

During his career Pettitte won five World Series, all with the Yankees, went to three All-Star games, and finished in the top six in the Cy Young Award voting five times.

For the Yankees, they now face the problem of putting together a strong enough pitching staff to compete with the Boston Red Sox and the rest of the American League. Right now they have CC Sabathia, Phil Hughes, and A.J. Burnett. Bartolo Colon, Freddy Garcia, Ivan Nova, Andrew Brackman and Sergio Mitre will fight in Spring Training for the finial two spots in the rotation.

Hey Now, You’re An All-Star

Written by Brandon Lee 12:12 PM, January 30th, 2011

Jon Heyman reports that Citi Field will be home to the 2013 All-Star Game. The Mets haven't hosted an All-Star Game since 1964, when Shea Stadium first opened. This is the longest any team has gone between hosting All-Star Games.

Chase Field, the home of the Arizona Diamondbacks, will be the location of this year's game. The Kansas City Royals will host the game at Kauffman Stadium in 2012.

Let's just hope that the Mayans were wrong, and the world doesn't end at the end of the year 2012, I really want to see the Mets host an All-Star Game.

It should be fun watching the Home Run Derby, might be some pretty low home run totals.

PostGame: American vs. National ~ 07/13

Written by Brandon Lee 11:11 AM, July 14th, 2010

The National League finally did it! The NL won the All-Star game for the first time since 1996. Since then, the AL had won five straight times, tied in 2002, and won it seven times after that. Last night that streak came to an end, as the NL beat the AL 3-1. The NL leads the overall All-Star game series 41-38-2.

Brian McCannDavid Wright had a very good All-Star game, going 2-2 with two singles and a stolen base. Charlie Manual then took him out after the fifth inning and replaced him with Scott Rolen. For his career Wright is now 6-13 in All-Star games, with one home run, one RBI, two runs scored, and one walk. Wright has gotten at least one hit in every All-Star game he has played in.

In the bottom of the fifth Robinson Cano hit a sac fly to left field to Evan Longoria to give the AL a 1-0 lead.

The NL finally got on the board in the seventh inning and they scored all the runs they needed. Brian McCann came up with the bases loaded and two outs and ripped a double to right field to score Rolen, Matt Holliday and Marlon Byrd

In the ninth inning, Jonathan Broxton came in to close things out. He gave up a hit to David Ortiz, to start the inning, then struck out Adrian Beltre. John Buck then hit what looked like a single to right field, but Ortiz had to hold up to make sure the ball wouldn't be caught, and then was forced out at second. Ian Kinsler then flew out to deep center field, to end the game and give the NL a 3-1 victory.
