Cora, Murphy Leave With Injuries

Written by Brandon Lee 15:15 PM, March 30th, 2010

Alex Cora was hit by a pitch from Chris Carpenter and left the game. Doesn’t sound too serious.  Leaving the game was  just  precautionary.

Daniel Murphy left the game after an apparent ankle injury. He was in a rundown between third base and home plate when he suffered the injury. He was able to walk off the field under his own power, so hopefully it’s nothing serious.

Update: Kelvim Escobar

Written by Brandon Lee 11:11 AM, March 30th, 2010

Brian Costa is reports that, “Kelvim Escobar said he felt good playing catch yesterday but expects to stay in PSL to rehab at least through April.”

If we get him back at any point this season I’ll be happy. Need to make sure that he is 100% healthy before he starts throwing off a mound again.

I was excited when the Mets signed him at first.  Many people thought it was one of the best moves of the offseason, until he got hurt.

Johan, Reyes To Play In Minor League Game

Written by Brandon Lee 10:10 AM, March 30th, 2010

Brian Costa is reporting that Johan Santana will make his final start of Spring Training today, against the Cardinals minor league team. His next start will be at Citi Field next Monday against the Florida Marlins to begin to 2010 season.

The reason the Mets are doing this is because he was scheduled to pitch against the Marlins. The Mets didn’t want to send him out in a meaningless Spring Training game, so that all the Marlin hitters get a preview of Johan before Opening Day.

Jose Reyes is also expected to play in the game as well. He will get an at-bat in every inning but he’ll only run to first base. He also won’t be playing the field.

They are taking it very slow with Jose and that’s a good thing. Worse case would be to rush him back and he gets injured. If Reyes misses Opening Day, it’s not a big deal. Hell, if he misses the first week its not a big deal compared to how long we thought he was going to be out for.
