Series Preview: Dodgers vs. Mets (07/04 ~ 07/07)

Written by Drucifer 16:16 PM, July 4th, 2011

New York Mets

@

Los Angeles Dodgers

Dodger Stadium

Monday, July 4th, 9:10 PM EDT
Dodger Stadium

Chris Capuano, LH (7-7, 4.27)

Rubby De La Rosa, RH (3-3, 4.41)

Scouting Report:

METS: Three home runs last Wednesday prevented Capuano from recording his fifth consecutive quality start, though he did emerge with his fourth victory in five decisions. Capuano will open up the series at Dodger Stadium, where he owns a 4.76 career ERA.

DODGERS: De La Rosa was dominant against the Twins on Wednesday, giving up just one run while going a career-high seven innings. He took a tough-luck loss, though, as the Dodgers were shut out.

Tuesday, July 5th, 10:10 PM EDT
Dodger Stadium

Mike Pelfrey, RH (4-7, 4.92)

Ted Lilly, LH (5-8, 4.97)

Scouting Report:

METS: A career-high five walks doomed Pelfrey last Thursday in Detroit, preventing him from completing five innings for the first time since April. He'll look to rebound against the Dodgers, a team he has never beaten in three career starts.

DODGERS: Lilly had his start pushed back a day because of left elbow tenderness, which has prevented him from throwing bullpen sessions between his last few starts. He has struggled recently, allowing 17 earned runs in his last three starts.

Wednesday, July 6th, 10:10 PM EDT
Dodger Stadium

Jonathon Niese, LH (7-7, 3.72)

Hiroki Kuroda, RH (6-9, 2.90)

Scouting Report:

METS: Niese gave up three runs in the first inning against the Yankees on Friday, but rebounded with five scoreless innings afterward. He struck out seven hitters and worked out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the sixth to keep the Mets in the game.

DODGERS: Hiroki Kuroda posted a 2.12 ERA in June, but because of a lack of run support, didn't get a win. He kicked off July pitching just as well, and finally broke through for his first win since mid-May with seven shutout innings in Anaheim.

Thursday, July 7th, 10:10 PM EDT
Dodger Stadium

Dillon Gee, RH (8-2, 3.47)

Clayton Kershaw, LH (8-4, 3.23)

Scouting Report:

METS: Mets manager Terry Collins blamed a lapse in focus for the one bad inning that doomed Gee last Saturday against the Yankees. Aside from one four-batter stretch, Gee was brilliant, shutting down one of baseball's best offensive teams.

DODGERS: Kershaw followed a pair of complete game gems with a dud in Anaheim his last time out. He struck out 10 batters, his third straight double-digit strikeout game, but he was hit hard for seven runs (six earned) on nine hits.
