Series Preview: Giants vs. Mets (07/08 ~ 07/10)

Written by Drucifer 16:16 PM, July 8th, 2011

New York Mets

@

San Francisco Giants

AT&T Park

Friday, July 8th, 10:15 PM EDT
AT&T Park

R.A. Dickey, RH (4-7, 3.68)

Ryan Vogelsong, RH (6-1, 2.13)

Scouting Report:

METS: Dickey left his last start after five innings — and 85 pitches — with tightness in his left glute. But he pitched well before his departure, allowing one run on five hits. He struck out three and walked two.

GIANTS: Vogelsong tossed another quality start Sunday, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and four walks while striking out five as the Giants eventually lost. The first-time All-Star is 3-1 with a 1.01 ERA in seven home games (six starts).

Saturday, July 9th, 9:05 PM EDT
AT&T Park

Chris Capuano, LH (8-7, 4.19)

Tim Lincecum, RH (6-7, 3.14)

Scouting Report:

METS: Though he did not possess what he called his "best stuff," Capuano still managed to hold the Dodgers to two runs in six innings last Monday. His next start comes against the Giants at AT&T Park, where he is 0-3 all-time with a 6.11 ERA.

GIANTS: Lincecum will make his last start before the break looking to bounce back from an off day Monday against the Padres. He said he didn't have his stuff and never got into a rhythm, taking his seventh loss as he surrendered three runs in five innings.

Sunday, July 10th, 8:05 PM EDT
AT&T Park

Mike Pelfrey, RH (5-7, 4.64)

Matt Cain, RH (7-5, 3.22)

Scouting Report:

METS: Pelfrey, who escaped two bases-loaded jams to submit six shutout innings last Tuesday in Los Angeles, will wrap up the first half for the Mets in San Francisco. He held the Giants to three runs over 7 1/3 innings in their lone meeting last season.

GIANTS: Cain gets the nod in the final game before the break, making the start that keeps him from participating in the Midsummer Classic despite being named an All-Star. Cain gave up five runs on seven hits and a walk in a loss to the Padres on Tuesday.
