PostGame: Mets vs. Marlins ~ 03/31

Written by Brandon Lee 18:18 PM, March 31st, 2010

Behind stellar pitching this afternoon, the Mets defeated the Florida Marlins by the final score of 6-3. The Mets did commit two errors in the 7th inning that led to three unearned runs, but besides that it was a very positive day for the Mets. To discuss the game in our forum, click here. For the box score to today’s game, click here. For a picture of a flying dog, click here.

Florida
0 0 0 0 0 0 3 0 0 3 5 1
NY Mets

Hitting:

  • The Mets had three home runs in this afternoon’s game; David Wright (5th), Jason Bay (4th), and Chris Carter (4th), who was a pinch hitter.
  • Mike Jacobs was excited about the news that he’ll be the starting first baseman on Opening Day, and hit two doubles. Wright also had a double, in addition to his home run.
  • Angel Pagan, Luis Castillo, and Russ Adams added singles for the Mets.
  • I’m pretty sure the race for the final spot on the bench is over, but Frank Catalanotto went 0-1 with a strike out.

Pitching:

  • Nelson Figueroa started for the Mets and pitched fantastic. Three innings, three hits, three strike outs, no runs, and no walks.
  • Raul Valdes, Bobby Parnell, Hisanori Takahashi, and Pedro Feliciano each threw an inning of scoreless and hitless ball.
  • Jenrry Mejia had some poor defense behind him that led to three unearned runs while he was pitching. But he pitched two innings, gave up two hits, and no earned runs.

MVP: Mets pitchers for giving up five hits and no earned runs the entire afternoon to the Marlins. Great work by everyone today.

Next Game: Mets will stay at home to play the Washington Nationals, the last game at Port St. Lucie this spring. Game time is set for 12:10 P.M. and the game will be shown on SNY.
