• Will Carroll reports that Carlos Beltran will start to run this weekend. This is a major test for Beltran, so hopefully everything goes well.
• Matt Cerrone reports that the Mets will be looking to keep their black uniforms, and get rid of the white with the blue stripes running from the collar to center of the jersey.
• Jerry Manuel said that short stop Jose Reyes will play in a Florida State League game tonight. If everything goes well, Reyes will return from the disabled list on Saturday.
• James Kannengieser from Amazin Avenue, tracks where and what pitches Jenrry Mejia threw in his major league debut last night.

• Paul Hoynes reports that the Cleveland Indians have designated ex-Met Anderson Hernandez for assignment.
• Susan Slusser reports that the Oakland Athletics have designated Jake Cust for assignment.  Could the Mets be interested in him?
• Jon Morosi reports that the Toronto Blue Jays and outfielder Adam Lind have agreed to a four year $18M extension.
• Rich Coutinho reports that the Mets will not use Jenrry Mejia in the 8th inning at the start of the season.
• Only one person over at ESPN picked the Mets to make the playoffs. That’s a good thing most likely.
• Adam Rubin reports that Ruben Tejada will wear number 11… at least for a few days.
• Rubin also reports that closer Francisco Rodriguez has arrived at Citi Field and is participating in workouts.

Here is some quick Mets news for today:

• Adam Rubin is reporting that the Mets will not start Mike Pelfrey in the second game of the season against the Florida Marlins.
• Rubin also reports that the Mets will send Omir Santos and Fernando Martinez to AAA Buffalo.

• Mark Bowman reports that the Mets have claimed relief pitcher Manny Acosta from the Atlanta Braves. He served as the closer for the Braves when Rafael Soriano went down last year. He was added to the Mets 40-man roster and sent down to AAA Buffalo.
• Steve Popper reports Mike Jacobs will start in place of Daniel Murphy in tomorrow’s line-up. Murphy left the game today with what the team is calling a bruised right knee.
• Tim Dierkes compiled a list of the most expensive rotations in baseball. No surprise, the Yankees are number one. In fact, their rotation has a higher salary than the entire team of the Oakland Athletics, Florida Marlins, Washington Nationals, Pittsburgh Pirates, San Diego Padres, and Tampa Bay Rays (all based on last year’s payroll numbers). The Mets are ranked 4th on the list.

Here is some quick news from around the league for today:

• Nats Town News reports that the Washington Nationals and reliever Mike MacDougal have agreed to a minor league deal. He was released yesterday by the Florida Marlins.
• Hanley Ramirez told The Palm Beach Post that he wants to retire as a Florida Marlin.
  Not sure if the Marlins have the money, or even want to spend the money to keep Hanley. He is signed through the 2014 season.
• According to a team press release, the Minnesota Twins have signed left handed relief pitch Ron Mahay.
• Joel Sherman reports that the Mets are shopping outfielder Gary Matthews Jr.
  No real shock here… they got to do something with him because there is no room for him once Beltran comes back.
• Tim Dierkes at MLB Trade Rumors calls the Mets signing of Kiko Calero one of the best minor league signings of the offseason.
• Ex-Met Doc Gooden was arrested Tuesday morning for driving while intoxicated.

• Tom Haudricourt reports that the Milwaukee Brewers have released ex-Met Scott Schoeneweis. He signed a minor league contract with them in the offseason.
• Ed Price is reporting that the New York Yankees have place Chad Gaudin on waivers.
• The Florida Marlins have released relief pitcher Mike MacDougal according to a team press release. Thought MacDougal converted 20 out of 21 save opportunities last season, he had more walks than strikeouts.
• Ken Rosenthal reports that the Mets could be interested in Jason Frasor and Scott Downs, who the Toronto Blue Jays are reportedly shopping.
