New York Mets vs. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (06/17 - 06/19)

    Fri., June 17th, 7:10 PM EDT - - - Citi Field

Joel Pineiro, RH (2-3, 4.03) - California Angels

Chris Capuano, LH (5-6, 4.40) - New York Mets

    Scouting Report:

ANGELS: Pineiro is without a win in his last six starts since notching career victory No. 99 against the White Sox on May 10. He is 0-3 with a 5.50 ERA over that stretch as he continues to look for his 100th win.

METS: Capuano pitched seven scoreless innings against the Pirates on Sunday at PNC Park, allowing three hits while striking out five to pick up the victory. He has allowed one run or fewer in three of his last four starts.

    BOXSCORE

    Sat., June 18th, 7:10 PM EDT - - - Citi Field

Dan Haren, RH (6-4, 2.54) - Anaheim Angels

Mike Pelfrey, RH (3-5, 5.11) - New York Mets

    Scouting Report:

ANGELS: Haren will maintain his regular turn, as rookie Tyler Chatwood was moved back a day. He went six innings, allowing seven hits and three runs for just his second win since April 17. The right-hander has gone at least six innings in all of his starts.

METS: Pelfrey took the loss against the Pirates on Monday despite going seven innings and allowing just two runs. He has given up two earned runs in three of his last four starts.

    BOXSCORE

    Sun., Jun. 19th, 1:10 PM EDT - - - Citi Field

Tyler Chatwood, RH (3-4, 4.20) - Los Angeles Angels

Jonathon Niese, LH (6-5, 3.46) - New York Mets

    Scouting Report:

ANGELS: Chatwood gets two extra days to figure out what went wrong in one of his worst performances, lasting only 3 2/3 innings while yielding five runs on Sunday against the Royals. His control was off, forcing him to groove pitches that ruined his day

METS: Niese continued his strong June by pitching effectively into the seventh inning against the Braves on Tuesday. After opening the season 0-2 with a 6.88 ERA, Niese is 4-1 with a 1.58 ERA over his last six starts. He has never faced the Angels.

love it: CALIFORNIA Angels...IMO, that is the only real name of this team that can't decide where they are from eventhough they have been in the same stadium forever...

same stadium since 1966: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angel_Stadium_of_Anaheim (yet, they have had how many names of their location?)

I'm really looking forwards to this series but that is more to do with me getting to watch some games live than it is the inter-league. Going to stay up and watch Saturday's game and then a day game on Sunday, almost a perfect baseball weekend.

Tough matchups. Haren is always good, and Pinero has been such a Met klller. Still, I'm gonna go 2 of 3, just because the team has been laying well, believing in themselves, and I see tonight's game as a statement game for them.

OK, yes, I am very much the optimist with our Mets.

P.S. After I posted this, I went up & voted. It then showed that 3 people had voted, all for 2 of 3. Way to go fellas!!!!! That's right, we believe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah they drive me nuts. It like they're embarrass as to where they play.

They probably change the location part of their name again if there is a realignment.

The inability of the Mets starting pitchers to get down a bunt is inexcusable. It has certainly cost us runs in at least two of the three games where they botched it during the last 10 days. This is the NL, pitchers Have to contribute on offense as well. It is not like they are getting the bunt down, but the lead runner is getting thrown out, they are getting it down at all. This HAS to improve on a team where we rely on small ball.

It's because the DH is through out the colleges and minor league systems. Pitchers and and almost everyone in baseball now believe they will seldom bat and therefore get almost zero training. So not only has the DH corrupted the AL, it has also done damage to the NL game.

The DH is the Devil's Handiwork.

That's why it's called the DH.

I hate it. The game was fine the way it was, some stupid owners got together and determined that it was a better idea to have some fat old guy hit. No thanks, give me REAL baseball.

    National League baseball.

One of those fat old guys was Mickey Mantle. It's nice idea, but it wasn't thought out. My idea was to allow players to pinch hit more than once in a game under certain conditions. With the bench even smaller in today's baseball, my idea is even better.

Um, Dru, I love ya, but Mantle never DH'ed a day in his life.

He retired in 1968. The DH was implemented in 1973.

My God, Murphy is clueless on the basepaths. He has made several boneheaded moves out there this season. We were more than lucky there.

And Bay is pathetic every time out. He's under .160 woth RISP this year. All that for 60+ million. I keep hoping that today is the day he finally starts to bust out.

Every day I am further disappointed.

Well, it was an RBI hit for Bay, not a pretty one, but I'll take it!
