@  brian stark : (10 Dec 2016 - 08:28)

Finally beginning to get some reasonable tems for rehabs. Took them long enough.

@  Saxon : (10 Dec 2016 - 06:26)

it's good to see that the archaic DL/rehab rules have been revisited...

@  Drucifer : (09 Dec 2016 - 21:23)

Jeff Passan ‏@JeffPassan
Cool new wrinkle in the CBA: Players coming off Tommy John surgery now can rehab up to 60 days in the minor leagues. Limit used to be 30.

@  yogib8 : (09 Dec 2016 - 13:52)

The personification of "The Right Stuff", RIP John Glenn 1921-2016.

@  METS FANG : (09 Dec 2016 - 13:35)

As for the questions earlier about Ces - in my mind the 27M per year is a higher premium for a shorter contract. If Sandy had guaranteed him 7 years for example, he likely could have gotten him for closer to $20-22 per year (I assume). 110M guaranteed vs 150M guaranteed. 3 year, 40M back of career contract feels just about right if he's still performing for a to be 35 year old and here we don't have risk IF he's still performing...

@  METS FANG : (09 Dec 2016 - 13:31)

Example, Grandy used to have decent speed...

@  METS FANG : (09 Dec 2016 - 13:26)

speed is the first thing to go...

@  METS FANG : (09 Dec 2016 - 13:26)

For a guy who will be 31 at the start of the season and 36 in his final season.

@  thomasam : (09 Dec 2016 - 13:15)

Fowler really is a great table setter though

@  thomasam : (09 Dec 2016 - 13:14)

There seems to be a lot of emphasis on defense and speed

@  Canada Mets Fan : (09 Dec 2016 - 11:27)

5/$82.5M full no trade????

@  Canada Mets Fan : (09 Dec 2016 - 08:11)

I think Fowler's a good player but worth nowhere near those crazy numbers.

@  brian stark : (09 Dec 2016 - 07:59)

Seeing that Fowler got what he got, it's a good thing we kept Ces, because I don't see us beating that number.

@  Canada Mets Fan : (09 Dec 2016 - 07:47)

The Cards have a press conference at 10, presumably to announce the signing of Fowler.

@  Saxon : (08 Dec 2016 - 23:36)

How many teams win championships based on walks and defense? Not many in recent years unless they have a smoking pitching staff

@  Saxon : (08 Dec 2016 - 23:35)

2013-2016, Heyward's single season equivalents: .263 average; .391 Slugging Percentage; 11 Home Runs; 51 RBI;
2010-2011, Heyward's single season equivalents: .255 average; .427 Slugging Percentage; 16 Home Runs; 57 RBI;
take away his 2012 "career year" and his walks/defense and you are left with someone inferior offensively to Adam Eaton (minus Eaton's walks, speed, defense)

@  Saxon : (08 Dec 2016 - 23:30)

Heyward's contract is/was insane...they can throw fairy-dust on OBP and defensive numbers all that they want to artificially inflate a player's WAR...but Heyward is not and never will be a "superstar", yet they gave him an A-Rod in his prime time of bullshit contract...

@  thomasam : (08 Dec 2016 - 22:52)

By the way, I now work in an area where I'm in the middle of everything so it's tough for me to sneak on during the day. I love it though that I know when I do drop by there's always a conversation going on.

@  thomasam : (08 Dec 2016 - 22:51)

I'm still not sure that qualifies as "throwing money around" though. Cespedes was going to get about that much on the open market. The other players aren't in his league as an all-around player.

@  West Coast M... : (08 Dec 2016 - 20:23)

This is glass half full or half empty argument. Those of us that were for resigning Cespedes saw the quick signing as a sign that management is in it to win it. Those that don't like him see it as rushing into signing him.

@  yogib8 : (08 Dec 2016 - 20:14)

Yeah, but there are limitations with those players

Understood thomasam, point is that no one else was throwing money around. Chapman got 17.2 the same as Walker, Desmond's AAV is 14 M, 2 M less than Grandy. Heyward was 25 coming off B to B seasons of a 6+ WAR....not insane contracts.

@  METS FANG : (08 Dec 2016 - 17:53)

where is the like button on the chat posts?! :)

@  Saxon : (08 Dec 2016 - 17:26)

Cespedes is a lot more valuable player to the Mets than any of those over-rated chumps are to their teams (other than Chapman, but nobody who's not insane gives a closer that big of a contract)

@  Saxon : (08 Dec 2016 - 17:23)

with the insane contracts that Desmond, Chapman and Jason Heyward received, I can't fault him for the Cespedes deal...I can fault him though for basically giving us the same team in 2017 as we had in 2016 and acting like it's an improved team

@  West Coast M... : (08 Dec 2016 - 16:35)

Very good points thomasam

@  thomasam : (08 Dec 2016 - 16:23)

Oh and Desmond is a good player but definitely not the same caliber

@  thomasam : (08 Dec 2016 - 16:22)

You can't compare those players to Cespedes who's in the prime of his career and is a plus fielder in addition to the hitting

@  thomasam : (08 Dec 2016 - 16:22)

Yeah, but there are limitations with those players Yogi. Morales is really only a DH, Reddick has recurring injury issues, Holliday is 37, Beltran is 40, and Gomez just isn't good.

@  Drucifer : (08 Dec 2016 - 16:22)

Granderson expected to start next season in CF http://on.sny.tv/2hbmM6p

@  yogib8 : (08 Dec 2016 - 15:45)

@West Coast While I applaud Sandy's patience in not rushing into things

I see Alderson as impatient, so far we are seeing a low AAV for FA signings which had he waited might have lowered his cost for Cespedes. K Morales, C Gomez, Reddick, Holliday, Desmond, Beltran all signed at numbers between 11 M and 16 M. Bats seem cheap this year....except at Citi Field

Fang, are you affected by the new IRS filing deadlines for Form 1065? I am. I oversee 13 entities that are LLCs filing as partnerships.

@  West Coast M... : (08 Dec 2016 - 13:11)

Crazy numbers for a reliever. Oh, how I wish I was athletic enough to play baseball instead of toiling away in sea of numbers. (not to mention about 40 years younger!)

@  METS FANG : (08 Dec 2016 - 12:53)

Can you believe the Chapman contract? 5 years, 85M

@  West Coast M... : (08 Dec 2016 - 12:44)

Fang - oh, I know all that but patience is not one of my virtues!

@  Canada Mets Fan : (08 Dec 2016 - 12:29)

EE is still available. He turned down 4/$80M and now he's not getting offered even 3/$60M. Just saying....

@  METS FANG : (08 Dec 2016 - 12:27)

Dec 8th... 60 days until pitchers and catchers. 100 days til the season starts. Lots of time.

@  West Coast M... : (08 Dec 2016 - 12:02)

While I applaud Sandy's patience in not rushing into things and having a methodical approach to the off-season, it tries MY patience each morning when I look to see if the Mets have done anything only to find they haven't.

@  METS FANG : (08 Dec 2016 - 11:25)

if you're not going to win it all, why half ass it? Get rid of your couple big assets, start over, prepare for 2-3 years of pure shittiness, but then hit the ground running... recent examples, cubs, royals, astros.

@  thomasam : (08 Dec 2016 - 10:57)

Granted they're prospects, but Giolito and Moncada are huge upside guys

@  thomasam : (08 Dec 2016 - 10:56)

Wow, the White Sox are really loading up on prospects

@  Canada Mets Fan : (08 Dec 2016 - 10:24)

Sax, Rogers (who owns the Jays) are saying the Jays said no to Stroman for Blackmon straight up.

@  Saxon : (08 Dec 2016 - 09:51)

CanFan...the rumor that I'm hearing for Stroman is Stroman for Charlie Blackmon, which if true would likely close the Bruce to the Jays possibility

@  METS FANG : (08 Dec 2016 - 09:46)

could end up being a good trade for them... prospects for a MLB proven player that keeps the offense rolling for the big bats to drive in RBIs. There's also the factor that the Nats were strongly rumored for two different trades to be ramped up or nearing completion... so maybe they just pushed all in to finally get one done?

@  Canada Mets Fan : (08 Dec 2016 - 07:19)

The rumors out of Toronto are that the Jays are looking to trade Stroman for OF help. Not sure they'd be so desperate as to trade a 25 year old starter with no history of arm injury for a season of either Bruce or Grandy. Stroman isn't an ace but is a solid starter and his stuff would play better out of the AL East. Would be a homecoming too, he's from LI, pitched in high school against Matz.

@  Saxon : (07 Dec 2016 - 21:45)

ever wonder how teams arrive at a trade like this one (how Eaton became a Soc to begin with)...if a fan on a fan forum came up with this WATP (Wild Ass Trade Proposal) he'd get his balls busted across the forum:

December 10, 2013: Traded as part of a 3-team trade by the Arizona Diamondbacks to the Chicago White Sox. The Chicago White Sox sent Hector Santiago to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The Chicago White Sox sent a player to be named later to the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim sent a player to be named later and Mark Trumbo to the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Arizona Diamondbacks sent Tyler Skaggs to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim sent A.J. Schugel (December 13, 2013) to the Arizona Diamondbacks to complete the trade. The Chicago White Sox sent Brandon Jacobs (minors) (December 13, 2013) to the Arizona Diamondbacks to complete the trade.

@  Saxon : (07 Dec 2016 - 21:42)

yes Grandy gets more HRs, but that and walks are about the only things that Grandy brings to the table

@  Saxon : (07 Dec 2016 - 21:41)

.360 OBP for a speedy Center Fielder that has averaged 47 XBH's and 241 "Total Bases" over the past 3 seasons is freakin' awesome...the difference between an old slow guy corner OFer like Granderson having a .360 OBP and a young speedy CFer like Eaton is huge
