Reyes and Murphy going to the DL

Written by Tyler M 16:16 PM, August 8th, 2011

Jose Reyes and Daniel Murphy both left Sunday's game against the Braves with different injuries. Both will not be going on the disabled list. Murphy will be out for the rest of the season after suffering a strained medial collateral ligament (MCL) in his left knee. This happened after Jose Constanza stole second base and nailed the leg of Murphy, causing his knee to buckle. Murphy was hitting .320 with 6 home runs and 49 runs batted in on the year. He will be replaced by Ruben Tejada on the roster.

Reyes injured himself running out a ground ball in the first inning of Sunday's game. He was diagnosed with a strained left hamstring and should return sometime this season. On the season he is hitting .336 with 16 triples, 5 home runs, 30 runs batted in, and 34 stolen bases. He will be replaced by Mike Baxter.

  • Bullpen – Has suffered losses in three consecutive games for the second time this year… The pen also had three straight losses, May 26-28… Manny Acosta tossed a scoreless inning last night and has not allowed a run in 11 of his last 13 appearances, permitting two earned runs over his last 14.0 innings (1.29 ERA)… Jason Isringhausen has allowed six runs (five earned) over his last two games.
  • R.A. Dickey – In eight career games, five starts, Dickey is 1-2 with a 4.93 ERA (19 earned runs/34.2 innings pitched) vs. Atlanta….In his last start, Dickey received the loss in a 3-0 defeat at Washington on July 30…Tossed 6.0 innings and allowed three runs, earned, six hits, two walks, one intentional, and one home run…Recorded one strikeout and threw 82 pitches, 53 for strikes…The intentional walk issued by Dickey was his first this season…The Mets are 6-2 in Dickey’s last eight starts despite his record being only 2-2.
  • Johan Santana – Was examined yesterday at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City and was diagnosed with fatigue of the left shoulder…His shoulder exam was otherwise normal… Santana will spend the next week with the Mets in New York… He will rest from throwing but maintain a fitness program… He will resume his throwing program once his shoulder is at full strength.

Series Preview: Mets vs. Braves (08/05 ~ 08/07)

Written by Drucifer 15:15 PM, August 5th, 2011

Atlanta Braves

@

New York Mets

Citi Field
Citi Field

Friday, 5th August, 7:10 PM EDT
Citi Field

Tim Hudson, RH (10-7, 3.31)

R.A. Dickey, RH (5-9, 3.77)

Scouting Report:

BRAVES: Hudson has overcome the lower back discomfort he experienced in late May, going 6-2 with a 2.34 ERA in his past 10 starts. He has lasted just four innings while losing his two starts against the Mets this year.

METS: Jayson Werth's three-run homer in the first spoiled Dickey's line Saturday in Washington, though he rebounded to record his second consecutive quality start. Dickey's last start against the Braves ended poorly, with six runs in four innings.

Saturday, 6th August, 7:10 PM EDT
Citi Field

Tommy Hanson, RH (11-6, 3.20)

Jonathon Niese, LH (10-8, 3.94)

Scouting Report:

BRAVES: Hanson is 1-2 with a 6.56 ERA in four starts since the All-Star break after going 10-4 with a 2.44 ERA before the Midsummer Classic. He's given up 17 runs in those starts, and all but five of those have come before the fourth inning.

METS: Niese cruised through the early innings in his last start before giving up three straight doubles in the sixth, preventing his career-high 11th win. Niese is 1-0 in two starts against the Braves this season, striking out 11 batters against one walk.

Sunday, 7th August, 1:10 PM EDT
Citi Field

Jair Jurrjens, RH (12-4, 2.63)

Dillon Gee, RH (10-3, 3.69)

Scouting Report:

BRAVES: Jurrjens struggled throwing breaking pitches for strikes his last time out, citing a mechanical flaw that he hoped to identify by watching film from earlier in the season. Since the All-Star break, he is winless with a 6.26 ERA.

METS: Gee was originally scheduled to start Wednesday before rain washed out that game against the Marlins. He'll instead pitch the series finale against the Braves, whom he has beaten twice in three starts with a 0.54 ERA this season.
