Saw a Red Tail Hawk in my back yard this AM, it was pecking and pulling up worms just like you'd see a Robin do. My wife startled the bird trying to take a photo and it took off clutching a garden snake for breakfast.

@  brian stark : (20 Oct 2016 - 10:51)

Impressive rebound game from the Cubs, but they are still behind the 8 ball. They basically HAVE to win tonight, because they are SO bad against lefties and the Dodgers have Kershaw (who appears to have the postseason gorilla off his back finally) and Hill (who made the Cubs lineup look like little leaguers) in 6 and 7 with an elite, top-of-his-game Jansen rested and ready to pitch multiple innings in multiple games.

@  Saxon : (19 Oct 2016 - 18:50)

so are the umps going to continue giving the injuns a favorable strikezone even against the almighty dodgers?

@  METS FANG : (19 Oct 2016 - 18:00)

so i guess that does it. Cleveland is WS bound. Good for them! :)

@  METS FANG : (19 Oct 2016 - 15:19)

btw - I hate the 2-3-2 method of series. In my mind, there are so many reasons this game should be in Cleveland and in Chicago. 1st Main: Cleveland has earned the right to be at home for the clinch (held serve + took 1 of 2 in Toronto - its perfect playoff formula). 2nd Main: No way Chicago should be backs against the wall by losing 2 of 3 on the road without having a chance to steady the momentum with a home game. (Kind of takes home field advantage down a major notch)

@  abat : (19 Oct 2016 - 15:18)

Yes mine too, I was in Cleveland last week the city is pretty amped up this year.

@  METS FANG : (19 Oct 2016 - 15:15)

my money is on Cleveland to finish it up here

@  abat : (19 Oct 2016 - 15:02)

Post season day game and Ron is on!

@  yogib8 : (19 Oct 2016 - 13:56)

being down 2-1 isn't indicitive to me of anything

The Cubs have lost the home advantage, which was a 705% and the Dodgers have neutralized their 346% road record.

@  brian stark : (19 Oct 2016 - 13:15)

The offense has disappeared. The first loss, against Kershaw was not as bad, it's Kershaw after all. Last night? A glorified journeyman stuffed it up their kiesters, and Arrieta was smacked around a bit. Their sphincters have to be tightening.

@  METS FANG : (19 Oct 2016 - 11:59)

lose tonight, and I may come on board to that sentiment. being down 2-1 isn't indicitive to me of anything

@  brian stark : (19 Oct 2016 - 11:19)

Looks to me like the Cubbies are feeling the pressure of expectations, pressing and not executing. Not a good time to be a Chicago fan...

Brian, Saxon HAS to be wrong, I agree with you so by default that makes you right and him wrong. Two rights make a RIGHT and a wrong is, well it's just..... wrong. lol

@  brian stark : (17 Oct 2016 - 20:27)

And we can argue that point without condescention. But you will still be wrong. :buddies:

@  brian stark : (17 Oct 2016 - 20:26)

Have to disagree heartily on that point, Sax. There is NOTHING on Earth worst than Suz and that blowhard. I would literally rather have dull pencils shoved into my eardrums repeatedly than listen to those two idiotic buffoons. For the organization that prides itself as the most professional and staid in all of baseball to have those two flaming morons on their broadcast is a travesty of epic proportions.

@  Saxon : (17 Oct 2016 - 19:22)

however, the Gary/Ron combo without Keith is as bad as Suzan Waldman and the "it is high, it is deep...it is gone" idiot

@  Saxon : (17 Oct 2016 - 19:17)

NOTE: The presence of a "LOL" means that I was only horsing around about the A'hole part...

@  Saxon : (17 Oct 2016 - 19:16)

@  Saxon : (17 Oct 2016 - 19:16)

the Gary/Ron combo without Keith to keep them in check is like "nails on a chalk board"...and your an A'hole for not agreeing with me

@  brian stark : (17 Oct 2016 - 19:04)

Exactly. I have to admit that there have been times when I had a firm belief about something, but by discussing the point here (and other places, to be fair), I was persuaded to change my outlook. I personally don't mind some snark (really? wow, couldn't tell), and sometimes that can go a bit far. But, condescending attitudes and, well for want of a better term, generally being an :::ahole::: gets old. I admit that at times I can be an :::ahole:::, but I can also be reasoned with and understand the opposing side without looking down on you. Unless you have been an :::ahole::: for an established period of time, then all bets are off and Dru gets mad at me. :) Oh, and Saxon, you are wrong on both counts. Gary is awesome and Piazza is a baseball god. :)

@  Saxon : (17 Oct 2016 - 19:02)

and for most of the time that I've lived in Northern Vermont, the Red Sox, Yanks and the Pats have been consistent playoff bound teams...so I've only gotten to see the "good times" up here...

@  Saxon : (17 Oct 2016 - 19:00)

nothing wrong with debating difference of opinion...it's condemning someone for having a "flawed" opinion...I've been trashed at various places over the years because I don't always drink the same Koolaid and wear the same rose color glasses as other fans...in particular, I don't agree with many fans' opinions on Gary Cohen or think that Piazza was the god that people make him out to be...

@  West Coast M... : (17 Oct 2016 - 18:55)

Brian, I agree. I like when the debate goes back and forth. I have learned a lot from that. There are times someone presents a viewpoint I hadn't thought of. Often though what is debated is just a matter of opinion, and some on here take their opinion as fact and get condescending in putting other opinions down.

@  brian stark : (17 Oct 2016 - 18:38)

Sax, I'm not JUST talking apparel. I lived in New England for over 12 years of my life total, at two different times decades apart. During those times, I rarely saw a Patriots logo on anything. Sox? Yes, all over. Pats? No. And if you listen to WEEI or another Boston area sports talk show, they eat each other alive just as much as any Met fan does. Like we are doing now! :D

@  brian stark : (17 Oct 2016 - 18:36)

I think that part of the problem is that this is a written form, so it's difficult at times to read the nuance in a post to tell if/how much sarcasm is intended in a particular post.

@  Saxon : (17 Oct 2016 - 18:36)

and brian...I'm not talking about whether a team's apparel goes missing during the dry years (Mets fans do the same thing, when they are good, you see Mets stuff all over...when not, they keep it in their homes apparently)...I'm talking about how they treat each other

@  Saxon : (17 Oct 2016 - 18:28)

Mets Fang...maybe I interpret what I wrote different than how people read it:

but Mets fans tend

"tend" to me means "quite often", "quite a few", "a high proportion...not "all"

@  METS FANG : (17 Oct 2016 - 18:13)

sorry, trying to lighten the mood :) and failing miserably, I'm sure haha

@  brian stark : (17 Oct 2016 - 18:13)

Well, not to be argumentative, but in my experience living in New England, the worst fans for tearing each other apart are Red Sox fans. Yankee fans just disappear when their team does not win championships (much like Cowboys fans, you don't see a star anywhere when they lose. Win a game and all of the sudden it's "I've been a Cowboy fan all my life"). Similar to Patriots fans. Pre-Brady, you could not find a Pats fan in Boston. They go on a streak and all of the sudden it's "Pats rule, blah blah blah". Mets fans are so used to being treated poorly that they are sensitive to any slight. I can't speak for anyone else, and maybe it does not seem that way to others, but personally I don't mind arguing or debating, I don't even mind if you disagree vehemently with me. Just don't be a hypocrite. Dish it out, take it.

@  METS FANG : (17 Oct 2016 - 18:12)

I don't think I'm the most loyal, longest suffering or highest intelligent fan - does that mean I'm not a true Mets fan? Sax, that hurts! :(

@  Saxon : (17 Oct 2016 - 17:53)

one of the biggest differences that I've noticed from having friends that are Yankee fans, Red Sox fans and Mets fans...Sox fans seem to bond together; Yanks fans seem to get along...but Mets fans tend to try to prove that they are the most loyal, long suffering, and intelligent fan on the planet while putting down other loyal, long sufffering, and intelligent fans

@  Saxon : (17 Oct 2016 - 17:51)

we should all try to get along...the audience here seems to get thinner and thinner every year...you don't have to agree with someone, but at least try to treat each other like intelligent humans...

@  brian stark : (17 Oct 2016 - 17:35)

Agreed. It's not fun when someone only looks to "get" or "catch" someone in everything they say.

@  West Coast M... : (17 Oct 2016 - 16:43)

Boy, this forum thing is supposed to be fun. When people start thinking their opinion is the only one that matters it sure shoots that fun thing to hell.

@  brian stark : (17 Oct 2016 - 11:17)

For someone who has "blocked" someone, you sure do have a lot to say about what I post. Whatever, dude, it's not like I value anything you have to say, either. You have proven exactly what you are.

@  yogib8 : (17 Oct 2016 - 10:41)

Is anyone else sick to death of seeing Daniel Murphy? Seriously, I have got to the point where I hate the guy.

Like I've said in the past, you have nothing for me. You are blocked

Just noticed on my scorecard while watching the Dodgers/Cubs game, I put down Addison REED instead of Addison RUSSELL. Unerstandable slipup, I guess...

@  brian stark : (15 Oct 2016 - 18:20)

To complete the Murphy correction of yogi, IF you were paying attention and not just rushing to try to get a "gotcha" moment and looking foollish, for THREE YEARS I said that Murphy was our best option, at SECOND base, not anywhere else. I stated numerous times that he was not an answer at any other positions for multiple reasons (not enough power for third or first, comically inept in the outfield). I even said when he DID sign with Washington that at the number he got, he would have been a good keep. What I said, have said and continue to say, is that at any more than what he got, and at any position other than second base (or first base for a SHORT time only), he was not worth keeping. He had a great year, no doubt, but I still think that letting him go was the right thing to do. Trading Herrera for Bruce? THAT was the obvious blunder. Herrera/d'A for Lucroy would have been the MUCH better move, but that was not the option chosen, and I think that was the mistake.

@  brian stark : (15 Oct 2016 - 18:01)

The Murphy with the Mets argument is played out. I was and am tired of seeing him get meatball after meatball. Washington is now out, good. The Murphy move now looks bad because in addition to him having an outlier year, we traded his assumed long term replacement for a knee-jerk redundant piece. THAT is the worst part.

@  brian stark : (15 Oct 2016 - 17:59)

yogi, you are SO wrong it hurts. I was advocating Murphy for the longest time. I said that he was best for us at second base. I also said that with Herrera here he did not make sense and that the capital would be best invested elsewhere. Stop baiting and trolling and get your facts straight.

@  METS FANG : (14 Oct 2016 - 14:56)

thanks WC! great shouts by you too! :)

@  West Coast M... : (14 Oct 2016 - 14:50)

Great shouts Fang

@  METS FANG : (14 Oct 2016 - 14:33)

(also, to go back to Brian's initial quesiton - no, I'm not at all sick and tired of seeing Murphy. Had a hell of a year, seems like a genuinely good guy/teammate, and I wish those types of players all the success in the world

@  METS FANG : (14 Oct 2016 - 14:32)

and btw - mets were far from alone in their hesitancy to sign Murphy. Murphy survived into New Years without signing and got far less than many thought he would (credit to the nationals for a smart signing)

@  METS FANG : (14 Oct 2016 - 14:28)

Also remember, he missed 20 games in 2014, 30 games in 2015 and already crossing the wrong side of 30.

@  METS FANG : (14 Oct 2016 - 14:27)

Murphy @ 3 years 13M per year vs 1st round compensation pick x2, Neil Walker for a year, and Herrera at league minimum.
